Selling a dead or junk Dodge Raider

Owners have filed 26 complaints about the Dodge Raider with NHTSA, and 16 of them are about seat belts. On the 1988 alone, belts come up in 7 of 9. One recall goes straight at that problem: the red plastic PRESS button on the front buckles can break, and the pieces can stop the buckle from working.

A Raider that no longer runs, or one with a jammed buckle and a seized engine, can still go whole. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and you can sell the whole car as it sits.

What the data shows, year by year

The EPA lists the Raider from 1987 to 1990 as a special purpose vehicle, in two versions: the Raider and the Raider 4WD. One more complaint sits under a 1986 model year in NHTSA's data, about hydraulic brakes and involving a crash. The 1990 has no complaints on file.

1987-1988: belts, then cruise control

The 1987 has 7 complaints. Seat belts lead with 3, and 2 more name the vehicle speed control. Two of the 1987's complaints describe crashes. The 1988 has 9, and the seat belt share climbs to 7.

1989: two recalls in one year

The 1989 also has 9 complaints, 6 of them on seat belts, 2 on tires, and one with an injury. It is the only year with two recall campaigns:

  • 89V027: throttle blade icing during long highway drives below 10 degrees F. The fix added a plate under the throttle that carries warm engine coolant. The campaign counted 4,300 vehicles.
  • 95V103003: the front buckle button recall, which also covers the 1987 and 1988. Its count of 920,000 vehicles is for the whole campaign, so it covered other models as well.

Complaints and recalls by model year

Figures are from the NHTSA file dated October 10, 2026. A recall listed for three years shows in all three rows. The 1989 and 1990 trucks have had slightly fewer years in owners' hands to draw filings.

Fix or sell?

Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup first. If the buckles are the only fault, that is a seat belt question, not a reason to scrap the truck. If the engine is gone or years outdoors have eaten into the body, compare the work against what the Raider would bring running. Our junk truck or SUV guide walks through that choice, and sitting for years covers a long-parked one.

Questions people ask

What do Dodge Raider owners complain about most?
Seat belts. They appear in 16 of 26 NHTSA complaints, per the agency's file on October 10, 2026. Tires come next with 3.
Was the Raider recalled for its seat belts?
Yes. Campaign 95V103003 covers 1987-1989 Raiders because the red plastic PRESS button on the front buckles can break and jam the buckle. That campaign counted 920,000 vehicles, which means it covered other models too.
Will you buy a Raider that doesn't run?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us if it is 4WD, whether it rolls, and where it sits.
