Pontiac is a brand that no longer sells new cars. The EPA fuel economy list rates Pontiacs from the 1984 to the 2010 model year and nothing after, and this site has a page for 22 of its 23 models. So the newest Pontiac is a 2010, and most are far older. The sections below cover which models owners have reported most to federal safety regulators, what being an orphaned brand means for a seller, and every model in the list.

Three models carry most of Pontiac's complaints

Pontiac owners have sent NHTSA 28,447 complaints across the brand's models, by our tally of the agency's records on October 10, 2026. Three cars account for 16,886 of them, about 59%:

Bonneville1,9711984-2005
Vibe1,8622003-2010
Sunfire1,1411995-2005

Read these with care. A Pontiac complaint is one owner telling the agency what happened, and it doesn't prove a part failed. A model sold for twenty years, like the Grand Am, has had far more cars and far more time to collect reports than one sold for two. The G6 stands out because it gathered its 5,887 in six model years. At the other end sit the G3 (2009-2010) with 19 and the G8 (2008-2009) with 216. Those were short runs, and later Pontiacs like them have spent fewer years on the road picking up reports.

What every Pontiac has in common now

There is no new Pontiac to trade toward and no Pontiac dealer to take one back. Every car of the brand is an older used car by now. The 2010 model year is the last one the EPA lists, so even the newest G6 or Vibe is past 15 model years. When one of them stops running, the repair bill is weighed against an old car's value, not a near-new one. Our guide to selling an old or high-mileage car walks through that choice.

Age also makes paperwork the usual snag. A Pontiac that sat for years often has a title that went missing or was never moved into the current owner's name. If that is your case, start with selling a junk car with no title before you call anyone.

Selling a dead Pontiac whole

Leave the engine, wheels and fluids where they are. The whole car goes on a truck as it is.

  1. Note the year, model and rough mileage. The odometer may be all you have on a car that sat.
  2. Be honest about its state: does it start, does it roll, are the tires flat, is anything missing.
  3. Find the title, or say plainly that it is lost.
  4. Tell us where it sits, whether that is a back lot, a carport or a relative's barn.

Pickup is free anywhere in the US. Once it is gone, see what to do after you sell about the plates and the state notice.

Questions people ask

Do you buy a Pontiac that has not run in years?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, including ones that have sat in a yard or garage for a long time. Sell the whole car as it sits, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
Pontiac is gone. Does that matter when I sell?
Not for selling it whole. The brand has no new models after 2010, so every Pontiac on the road is at least 16 model years old. You sell the car you have; nobody needs a Pontiac dealer for that.
Which Pontiac has the most NHTSA complaints?
The G6, with 5,887 owner complaints in NHTSA's records when we tallied them on October 10, 2026. The Grand Am (5,578) and Grand Prix (5,421) come next. These are owner reports, not a reliability rating, and models sold for many years or in big numbers collect more.
