Selling a junk car in Richmond Hill
On Richmond Hill's signed residential roads, a car cannot spend the night at the curb. Section 66-3 says that within a residential district designated by signs, "no person shall stop, park or leave standing any vehicle, whether attended or unattended, upon the roadway between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m." A car that dies in front of the house in the evening is breaking that rule by midnight. We buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, and pickup is free anywhere in the US, Richmond Hill included.

Overnight and sight-line rules
The overnight ban is only half of Section 66-3. It also bars parking a vehicle "on the opposite side of the street from a stopped, parked or left standing vehicle" where there is "less than a 200-foot clear view" of it from either direction. So if a neighbor already has a car out, yours cannot go across from it on a stretch where drivers lack that view.
The same section names stretches with no parking on either side at any hour, measured by mile post. One begins at mile post 6.66, 300 feet south of State Route 144. If your car quit on one of those roads, it should not wait there.
In the driveway or yard
We did not find a Richmond Hill section on junk or inoperable cars kept on private property. Georgia law covers the gap. A car left alone 30 days on private land is an "abandoned motor vehicle," and on public land it takes just five days if the owner looks unlikely to return. Richmond Hill may have stricter local rules than the sections we read, so check with City Hall.
If it has been towed
Georgia gives a tow company 15 calendar days from pickup to reach every owner with a letter, delivered by hand or certified mail. Richmond Hill owners get a letter saying the company may go to court on its lien once ten calendar days pass, and a judge can order a sale. See towed or impounded car.
Tag offices we checked
Georgia's Department of Revenue runs titles, and each county's tag office does the counter work. Richmond Hill is in Bryan County, and the three offices we checked are in Hinesville, Savannah and Brunswick, so call ahead to confirm which one will help you:
- 112 N. Main St., Hinesville, phone (912) 876-3389: about 17 miles west, as the crow flies.
- 222 W Oglethorpe Ave #107, Savannah, phone (912) 652-7100: about 18 miles northeast.
- 1725 Reynolds St., Brunswick, phone (912) 554-7000: about 53 miles south.
Since Georgia lets you end a registration on the DRIVES e-Services site, the sale itself may not need a drive at all. On a Richmond Hill title, each owner prints and signs inside the Seller box. Put the Richmond Hill odometer reading in whole miles, with no erasing. The plate stays yours. Registration first, insurance second.
If the title is lost, an $8.00 Form MV-1 replaces it. Georgia skips titles for 1985-and-older models; a bill of sale handles those. See junk car with no title.

Questions people ask
- Can my dead car sit on a Richmond Hill street overnight?
- Not in a residential district designated by signs. Section 66-3 says no one may stop, park or leave standing any vehicle on the roadway there between 12:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., attended or not.
- Is there a Richmond Hill rule about junk cars on private property?
- The city code sections we read had none. Georgia treats a Richmond Hill car as abandoned after 30 days or more sitting untended on private land. Richmond Hill could add rules we did not see.
- Which tag office handles a Richmond Hill car?
- Georgia handles title and plate work at the tag office of each county, and Richmond Hill is in Bryan County. The offices we checked are in Hinesville, Savannah and Brunswick: Hinesville, Savannah and Brunswick. Call ahead before driving to one.
- Do I need to cancel the registration after I sell?
- Yes. A Richmond Hill sale has two parts. Give the Richmond Hill buyer the title, and cancel the tag using DRIVES e-Services or Form MV-18J. Keep insurance until that cancellation goes through.
