Selling an Ioniq 5 that won't charge or won't drive
Of the 1,357 complaints Ioniq 5 owners have filed with NHTSA, 859 name the electrical system. NHTSA files the Ioniq 5's biggest recall, the one for its charging control unit, under that same system. If your Ioniq 5 stopped charging, won't power up, or has a repair estimate you don't want to pay, you can sell the whole car as it sits.

The charging control unit recall
The Ioniq 5 rides on Hyundai's E-GMP platform, with a 58 to 84 kWh SK On lithium-ion pack, according to Wikipedia. Two of its 15 recall campaigns concern the Integrated Charging Control Unit, or ICCU.
Hyundai first recalled it in March 2024 under campaign 24V204, covering 2022-2024 Ioniq 5s. That campaign was replaced in November 2024 by 24V868. Under the newer one, dealers inspect the ICCU and its fuse, replace them as necessary and update the ICCU software. A car that was repaired under the first campaign still needs the second remedy.
The 145,642 vehicles in 24V868 are not all Ioniq 5s. The same campaign covers the Ioniq 6 and the Genesis GV60, GV70 Electrified and G80 Electrified.
Problems by model year group
Wikipedia dates Ioniq 5 production from March 2021. The data splits naturally into the ICCU years and the 2025 cars.
2022-2024: the ICCU years
These three years hold 1,018 complaints, and the electrical system is the top category in each one: 269 on the 2022, 233 on the 2023 and 147 on the 2024. The 2023 also carries the model's only two complaints that report a death, and three of its four fire reports.
Other recalls on these years:
- 22V324, 2022: a software error in the shifter control unit can disengage the parking mechanism and let the car roll away. Owners were told to use the electronic parking brake until the fix.
- 24V065, 2023: the rear inner driveshaft may have been heat-treated badly and can break under load. Dealers replace it. The 1,165 vehicles include Ioniq 6 and GV60 cars.
- 26V432, 2023-2024: battery cells may have misaligned electrodes that can lead to a fire while parked or driving. Until it's fixed, Ioniq 5 owners should park outdoors and stop charging at 80%. Six vehicles are in this campaign.
2025-2026: nine recalls in one model year
The 2025 has 315 complaints and nine recall campaigns, more than any other Ioniq 5 year. Most are small batches:
- 25V065 and 25V235: left-foot braking software on the Ioniq 5 N (1,587 and 1,589 vehicles). The N got an 8-speed N e-Shift from 2025.
- 25V064: an open circuit in the rear floor harness can stop the rear side air bag from deploying (33 vehicles).
- 25V373: a wrong headlight aim label on the right side (10,409 vehicles).
- 25V482 and 26V068: a loose high-voltage battery bus bar that can short-circuit (10 and 27 vehicles; 26V068 also covers the 2026 Ioniq 9). 25V482 is a park-outside recall.
- 25V605 and 26V314: rear suspension bolts or fasteners that can loosen (8 and 172 vehicles).
- 25V797: front seat belt retractors that may not be secured (1,535 vehicles).
The 2026 has 24 complaints so far. Its recalls are 26V068 and 26V047, an instrument panel software update that covers 41,651 vehicles across many Hyundai models.
Complaints and recalls by model year
This Ioniq 5 count comes from NHTSA owner reports we tallied on October 10, 2026. A report is a claim, not a confirmed defect. A 2026 Ioniq 5 has been on the road far fewer months than a 2022, so its count lags. A single campaign may reach several years, which is why the per-year recall numbers total more than 15.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes reported | Fires reported | Recall campaigns | Most-named system |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 407 | 7 | 1 | 3 | Electrical (269) |
| 2023 | 387 | 12 | 3 | 4 | Electrical (233) |
| 2024 | 224 | 5 | 0 | 3 | Electrical (147) |
| 2025 | 315 | 3 | 0 | 9 | Electrical (201) |
| 2026 | 24 | 0 | 0 | 2 | Electrical (9) |
| All years | 1,357 | 27 | 4 | 15 campaigns | Electrical (859) |
After the electrical system, owners most often name the power train (106) and the fuel/propulsion system (84).
Pay for the repair, or sell it broken?
- Start with your Ioniq 5 VIN. Enter it in NHTSA's recall lookup. If 24V868 is open, the ICCU inspection is dealer recall work.
- Pack problem, not the ICCU? A high-voltage battery fault outside a recall is the big-ticket case. Our EV battery guide walks through how to weigh it.
- Warning lights that come and go? See electrical problems before you decide the car is done.
- Compare two numbers: the shop's written repair figure, and the selling price of a running Ioniq 5 like yours in year and miles. When the repair nears that price, selling it whole makes sense.
Selling your Ioniq 5 whole
- Gather the basics: VIN, mileage, what the car does or doesn't do, and the charge level if the screen still shows it.
- Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say where it's parked and whether it will go into Neutral. An EV that won't power on often can't be rolled, and the truck needs to know. If a park-outside recall applies, mention it.
- Don't take parts off. The pack, wheels and charging cable stay with the car. Let us know if anything is gone.
- At Ioniq 5 pickup, sign over the title and show the driver your ID. If you still owe on it, see still owe on the loan. After you sell covers plates and insurance.

Questions people ask
- Which Ioniq 5 model years have the most NHTSA complaints?
- As of October 10, 2026, the 2022 Ioniq 5 tops the list with 407 complaints. The 2023 (387), 2025 (315), 2024 (224) and 2026 (24) follow. A 2026 car has simply been driven for fewer months, so its low count says little yet.
- What is the ICCU recall on the Ioniq 5?
- It concerns the Integrated Charging Control Unit on 2022-2024 Ioniq 5s. The first campaign, 24V204, was replaced by 24V868. Under 24V868 dealers inspect the ICCU and its fuse, replace them as necessary and update the ICCU software. Cars already fixed under 24V204 need the newer remedy. The 145,642 vehicles in 24V868 include the Ioniq 6 and three Genesis EVs, so that number is not all Ioniq 5s.
- Will you buy an Ioniq 5 that won't power on or charge?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, EVs included, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us whether the screens light up and whether it will shift into Neutral, so the right truck comes.
- My Ioniq 5 is under a park-outside recall. Can it still be picked up?
- Yes. Owners are told to park outdoors, away from buildings, under two Ioniq 5 campaigns: 25V482 (2025 cars, a loose battery bus bar) and 26V432 (2023-2024 cars, battery cells that can catch fire). Mention it in your offer request, and the driver will load it from its spot outdoors.
