Selling a junk or unregistered car in Batavia
In Batavia, a car can count as junk because of a missing sticker. Section 4-4-1 of the city code lists a motor vehicle, "whether on public or private property, with no current valid state registration, no current city of Batavia vehicle sticker." A car that runs but has let both lapse can fall under the junk rule from the driveway. If the car is not worth catching up on, we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.

The rest of the city's junk definition
The same section names more cars that count:
- a car "left unattended on a highway or public property for a period in excess of twenty four (24) hours"
- a car "not removed after its involvement in a collision"
- an unattended car on a highway or public property that has been vandalized
Batavia also writes "wrecked, disabled and/or abandoned automobiles, trucks" and "any parts thereof" into its meaning of junk, when they are not "within a closed building." Storing junk on private property where zoning does not allow it "is declared a nuisance."
How a notice works here
Batavia does not print a fixed number of days. A police officer or the city inspector who sees a violation issues a notice to the owner of record, the occupant, or both. Owners are looked up in the Kane County recorder of deeds. The notice sets "a reasonable time limit" for abatement, and when that time runs out an officer checks again. If the car is still there, a complaint goes to the Circuit Court.
Fines run from $10 to $200, and each 24 hours the nuisance continues after notice can be charged again. That is why a car you meant to deal with later gets more expensive the longer it waits.
Selling the car under Illinois rules
Titles don't come from Kane or DuPage counties. The Illinois Secretary of State handles them, by mail from Springfield or at a Secretary of State facility. When you sell, fill out and sign the Assignment of Title right on the certificate. Sellers have no extra form to file, and no notary appears in the state's steps.
Take the plates with you, because the buyer cannot legally drive on them. As soon as the Batavia car sells, fill in VSD 703 or the title's bottom Notice of Sale stub and mail it in to the Secretary of State. Hold on to a Batavia bill of sale listing when you sold, what you were paid, and the buyer's name and home address.
A branded car adds one step. A Batavia car on a Salvage Title can't be registered in Illinois. The seller also hands the buyer a "Disclosure of Rebuilt Vehicle" form. See salvage title before you list one.
Both of Batavia's counties are in the state's emissions-testing area. A gas car built in 1996 or later needs testing from age four. The model year and the month your plates expire set when. If the test is what stopped the car, see failed emissions.

Getting an offer
Batavia sellers can reach us at (877) 421-6008, or start with the short form on this page. If an inspector's notice is already on the door, say so, since the city sets its own deadline. The truck can come to the house, a rented garage or the shop where the car broke down.

- Per the Secretary of State, Illinois won't register a salvage vehicle. A Batavia seller with a Salvage Title hands the buyer a "Disclosure of Rebuilt Vehicle" form too.
