Tinley Park junk and dead car sales

Tinley Park's rule names three kinds of car, and only one of them is broken. Section 155.07 says "no inoperative, unlicensed or unregistered motor vehicle shall be parked, kept or stored on any premises." A car that starts but has lapsed registration is in the same spot as one with no engine. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and the same goes for cars that run but sit unregistered. Sell the whole car as it sits, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

What the code bans

Section 155.07 also says no vehicle "shall at any time be in a state of major disassembly, disrepair, or in the process of being stripped or dismantled." The village nuisance list, 98.02(F), repeats the point from another angle: it counts "non-functioning and unlicensed motor vehicles" among the junk and refuse that may not be left to remain anywhere in the village except as the code allows.

If the registration simply lapsed, renewing may cost less than you fear. Illinois charges one $20 delinquent fee when a renewal for a car or light truck arrives more than a month late, and the statute has no back fees for missed years.

When the village calls a tow

Police call tow trucks from a rotation list, sharing the calls fairly, though they may skip the order when a closer truck can get there faster. When a car must be held for an indefinite time, the officer fills out a "hold order" at the scene.

Towing companies on that list must keep their storage yards "within five miles of the corporate boundaries of the village," so a towed Tinley Park car stays close. They must also be able to handle "junk/abandoned vehicles" in snow, mud and rain.

Getting your things out

Section 122.06 follows the state Vehicle Code here. The towing service "shall allow vehicle owners or third parties directed and authorized by the vehicle owner to have access to remove personal property from towed and stored vehicles during normal business hours for no additional fee," provided the owner has insurance on the vehicle and there is no police hold. After hours is up to the company and may carry a fee. Towed or impounded covers what comes next.

What becomes of an old impounded car

Section 90.09 splits cars by age. If police cannot identify the owner or lienholder of a car seven years old or newer, it may be sold without notice to them. A car "of more than seven years of age" is kept at least ten days while police look for the owner and lienholder. After that, with no word back, "the Police Department will authorize the disposal of the vehicle as junk or salvage." An antique can go to someone who wants to restore it.

Illinois paperwork from Tinley Park

Part of Tinley Park sits in Cook County and part in Will, yet every title is handled by the Illinois Secretary of State. On the certificate, complete and sign the Assignment of Title at delivery; the state has no other seller transfer form, and its seller steps list no notary. Your plates belong to you, and a Tinley Park buyer can't legally drive on them, so remove them first. Mail the Notice of Sale right away to release your responsibility.

Illinois won't register a Tinley Park car on a salvage title, and its seller owes the buyer one Disclosure of Rebuilt Vehicle form. Salvage title explains more.

Questions people ask

The car drives, but its registration ran out. Will Tinley Park have an issue with that?
It can be. Under Tinley Park's supplemental regulations, no premises may hold a parked, kept or stored motor vehicle that is inoperative, unlicensed or unregistered. Illinois charges one $20 delinquent fee if the renewal arrives more than one month after expiration, with no multi-year back fees in the statute.
Can I get my belongings out of a towed car in Tinley Park?
Towing services on the police list must let insured owners, or people they authorize, remove personal property during normal business hours for no additional fee, unless there is a police hold. After-hours access is up to the company and may cost extra.
Can I sell a car with an Illinois salvage title?
Illinois will not register a salvage vehicle. Selling on a salvage title means handing your buyer a Disclosure of Rebuilt Vehicle form.
