Selling a Kia EV6 that won't charge or drive
On the EV6, one system draws most of the complaints. Of 543 complaints owners filed with NHTSA, 352 name the electrical system, and two of the five recalls target the same part: the Integrated Charging Control Unit, or ICCU.

An EV6 that won't charge, won't power on or was wrecked can be sold as one piece. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
The ICCU recalls
The ICCU charges the 12-volt battery. When it is damaged, that battery stops charging, and the car can lose drive power. Kia has two campaigns for it, both on 2022-2024 EV6 models:
- 24V200 (March 2024): 48,232 vehicles.
- 24V867 (November 2024): 62,872 vehicles.
The two remedies read alike: the ICCU and its fuse get checked and swapped where needed, then the unit gets a software update. Every EV6 model year lists the electrical system first, from 190 complaints on the 2022 down to 30 on the 2025.
Problems by model year
Wikipedia lists one generation so far, built since 2021 in Hwaseong, South Korea, on Hyundai's E-GMP platform. Layouts are a single rear motor or two motors driving all four wheels, with a single-speed reduction gear and a 58, 77.4 or 84.0 kWh battery. The 2022 EV6 was an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.
2022-2024: the recall years
These three years hold 490 complaints and all five recalls. Besides the ICCU:
- Rollaway, 22V322 (2022). Faulty software in the EV6's shifter control unit (SCU) may let the parking mechanism disengage. Until the fix, drivers are advised to park on level ground. 9,014 vehicles.
- Drive shaft, 24V057 (2023). A drive shaft may not have been heat-treated properly and can break, cutting drive power. Dealers replace it. The 1,243 count also covers Niro EV models.
- Battery cells, 26V431 (2022-2024). Some high-voltage cells may have been built with misaligned electrodes, a fire risk whether parked or driving. Kia wants these EV6s kept outdoors and charged no higher than 80% until repaired. The campaign lists 8 vehicles, including some 2024 EV9s.
Power train complaints rank in the top three on the 2022 (14) and 2024 (7). The single death report in the EV6 file is on a 2022.
2025: fewer complaints so far
The 2025 has 53 complaints and no recalls listed. It has also spent the least time in owners' hands, which keeps its count low. Wikipedia says most North American EV6 production was expected to move to Kia's West Point, Georgia plant for the 2025 model year.
Complaints and recalls by model year
EV6 owner complaints were counted from NHTSA's records on October 10, 2026. Both ICCU campaigns and the battery cell campaign sit on each row from 2022 to 2024.
| Model year | Complaints | Electrical system | Crashes | Recalls | Next most-named |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | 277 | 190 | 11 | 4 | Unknown or other (18) |
| 2023 | 137 | 90 | 2 | 4 | Fuel/propulsion, other (9 each) |
| 2024 | 76 | 42 | 6 | 3 | Power train (7) |
| 2025 | 53 | 30 | 1 | 0 | Power train, fuel/propulsion (6 each) |
Across all years the file holds 20 crash reports, 2 fire reports and 23 tow reports.
Fix it or sell it?
- Check the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup. A dead 12-volt battery and no drive power on a 2022-2024 car points first at the ICCU campaigns.
- Main battery trouble? See EV battery failed for how to weigh a high-voltage battery quote.
- Wrecked? An insurance total or heavy damage is covered in insurer totaled it.
- Set the EV6 repair estimate beside the going price of a working one. If the gap is small, selling it unrepaired is often the better call.
Selling the EV6 whole
- Note the EV6's VIN, its mileage and range at last charge, and whether it powers on at all.
- Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Tell us where it's parked. Pickup is free anywhere in the US, and an EV6 that won't wake up can still be loaded when the driver knows ahead.
- Leave it whole, battery and charging cable included.
- Have the EV6 title and a photo ID within reach on pickup day. Leased? See leased car.

Questions people ask
- What is the ICCU problem on the Kia EV6?
- The Integrated Charging Control Unit may be damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can cut drive power. Recalls 24V200 and 24V867 cover 2022-2024 EV6 models. Under both, the dealer checks the unit, swaps it and its fuse when needed, and loads new ICCU software.
- Which EV6 year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2022 EV6, its first year, with 277 of 543 complaints filed by EV6 owners through October 10, 2026. The 2023 has 137, the 2024 has 76 and the 2025 has 53; each later EV6 has simply been on the road for less time.
- Will you buy an EV6 that won't power on?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, including electric ones, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Say the EV6 is dark and won't wake, and where it's parked.
- Should I take the battery out before selling?
- No. Sell the whole car as it sits. If the EV6 is under the battery cell recall, leave it parked outdoors, as that campaign asks, until it is picked up.
