Selling a junk or non-running Mitsubishi Endeavor
The first model year carries most of the Endeavor's NHTSA file. Of the 296 owner complaints NHTSA held on October 10, 2026, 182 are on the 2004, and structure leads that year with 51. The 2004 also shares the top spot for recalls, with six campaigns, tied with the 2005.

One generation, built in Illinois
Wikipedia lists the Endeavor as a mid-size crossover built in Normal, Illinois, from 2003 to 2011, on Mitsubishi's PS platform. Every one has the 3.8-liter 6G75 V6 and a 4-speed automatic, with front- or four-wheel drive. It replaced the Montero Sport and gave way to the Outlander. Wikipedia also notes that sales fell short of Mitsubishi's expectations.
Known problems, tied to the recalls
2004-2005: structure, brakes and the launch-year recalls
These two years hold 222 complaints. Structure leads both: 51 on the 2004 and 9 on the 2005. Engine and engine cooling (16) and power train (14) follow on the 2004.
Brakes account for three recalls here:
- 05V069000 (2004-2005): the parking brake cable lock nut may not have been tightened and can come off. Campaign: 65,436 vehicles.
- 05V409000 (2005): on cars with anti-lock brakes, the master cylinder can let fluid bypass internally while stopping. Dealers replace it. Campaign: 2,901 vehicles.
- 06V068000 (2005): front brake calipers may be brittle from improper metallurgy. Campaign: 4,359 vehicles.
The 2004 also has a cracking driver's seat riser (04V279000, 1,211 vehicles), an overheating dealer-installed trailer hitch module (04V197000, 2,175 vehicles), and bilingual air bag labels (04V428000). That last campaign's 100,432 count spans other Mitsubishi passenger cars.
2006-2011: fewer complaints, more electrical and fuel recalls
The later years total 74 complaints. Fuel and propulsion shows up on the 2006, 2008 and 2010 lists. Electrical system ties with it at the top of the 2006.
- 08V139000 (2004-2008): the ignition key interlock cable may let the interlocking cam fall forward. The campaign record counts 116,600 vehicles; its defect summary says 120,000 2004-2006 Endeavors.
- 10V065000 (2004-2010): the fuel filler pipe, on Endeavors sold or registered in certain states such as Illinois, Maryland and Massachusetts. Dealers replace the pipe. Campaign: 108,147 vehicles.
- 08V454000 (2005-2007): a left rear fuel tank strap bracket may be badly formed. The 45,988 count also covers the Galant and Eclipse.
- 10V514000 (2006-2008, manual A/C): a wrong HVAC controller signal can change vent direction or temperature on its own. Campaign: 19,410 vehicles.
- 08V022000 (2006-2007): the right lower front seat belt anchor may separate in a severe crash. Campaign: 7,340 vehicles.
- 09V361000 (2010): weld on the front passenger seat's side air bag retainer bracket. Campaign: 531 vehicles.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Endeavor complaints by year, per NHTSA on October 10, 2026. A campaign listed for several years appears in each row. The 2010 and 2011 have had the least time to draw complaints.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2004 | 182 | 14 | 6 | Structure (51) |
| 2005 | 40 | 6 | 6 | Structure (9) |

Fix it or sell it?
With twelve campaigns on record, run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup before you price any repair. Open work there is done by a dealer; the open recall guide explains selling with it still open.
After that, set the quote against what a running Endeavor of the same year and drive type sells for. Brake trouble on a 2004-2005 is covered in bad brakes. A worn 3.8 that knocks or won't start is a blown engine question.
How to sell your Endeavor whole
- Write down the VIN, mileage, drive type and what's wrong.
- Request an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Let us know where the Endeavor is parked and if it moves when put in Neutral. We tow the Endeavor at no charge from a driveway, lot or repair shop anywhere in the country.
- Leave it complete. Tell us about any part already removed, since that changes the offer.
- Bring the title and ID to pickup. For plates, insurance and the title by state, see after you sell.
Other Mitsubishi SUVs: the Montero Sport, Outlander and Montero, or every Mitsubishi we cover.
Questions people ask
- Why does the 2004 Endeavor have so many complaints?
- It holds 182 of the model's 296 NHTSA complaints (count of October 10, 2026), and structure leads with 51. The counts show where owners complained, not why. Later Endeavors have also had fewer years to gather complaints, so they don't compare one to one.
- Which Endeavor recalls should I check first?
- On a 2004-2008, the ignition key interlock recall (08V139000). On a 2004-2010 sold or registered in the states it lists, the fuel filler pipe recall (10V065000). On a 2005, the brake master cylinder and front caliper recalls. Put your VIN into nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Will you buy an Endeavor that won't run?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Mention if your Endeavor's wheels turn and if it's the front-wheel or all-wheel drive version.
