Selling a dead Nissan NV200 cargo van

If your NV200 died on the road and won't restart, look up recall 25V676 first. It covers every NV200 van from 2013 through 2021: a fuel tank sensor harness routed the wrong way can be damaged, short the fuel pump fuse and stall the engine. Whether it's that or something worse, the van can be sold whole, as it sits. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

The van in brief

The US got one generation of NV200, for 2013 through 2021, built by Nissan Mexicana in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Nissan said North American production would end in summer 2021. Every one has a 2.0-liter 16-valve four with 131 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque, driving through an Xtronic CVT; by 2019 Nissan was calling it a next-generation Xtronic. Nissan's 2013 press kit gives 122.7 cubic feet of cargo space, a 21.1-inch load floor height and an estimated payload of 1,500 pounds on the S model.

Two other versions share the van. New York City picked the NV200 as its "Taxi of Tomorrow"; production started at Cuernavaca in August 2013, and the first cabs joined the city's fleet near the end of that October. The EPA lists the NYC Taxi for 2015-2019. Chevrolet sold a badge-engineered copy, the City Express.

13V603Nov. 20132013Steering columns taken apart for inspection after the vans were built may have been put back wrong, which can cost steering.
14V138Mar. 20142013 vans and taxisOccupant classification software may read an adult in the passenger seat as an empty seat and switch that air bag off.
16V244Apr. 20162013-2016 vans, 2014-2016 taxisThe passenger air bag may not deploy as intended, because of the occupant classification sensor. Part of a 3,296,947-vehicle recall.
18V551Aug. 20182017 vans and taxis with a mechanical key ignitionOver time, the weight on the key ring plus road conditions or another jolt can turn the ignition off, and the engine stalls.
19V654Sept. 20192018-2019The rearview camera image may not appear.
25V676Oct. 20252013-2021 vans, 2014-2017 and 2019 taxis, 2015-2018 City ExpressThe fuel tank temperature sensor harness may be misrouted, damaging wires and shorting the fuel pump fuse; the engine can stall. 173,301 vehicles.

None of the seven tells owners to stop driving the van or to park it outside.

What owners complain about

NHTSA holds 34 complaints filed under NV200 or NV200 Taxi. Air bags are named in 16 of them, and 11 describe an air bag warning light or an occupant sensor fault, the same part behind recalls 14V138 and 16V244. Seven mention the fuel pump, a fuse or the fuel tank temperature sensor, the parts in recalls 13V521 and 25V676.

NV200 complaints and recalls by model year

Complaints are those filed under NV200 or NV200 Taxi in NHTSA's complaint database as downloaded on October 10, 2026. The 70 complaints filed under the model name NV, Nissan's full-size van, are left out. Recalls are the seven campaigns above; one campaign can cover several years and is counted in each.

Fix it or sell it?

We have no sourced repair cost for the NV200, so start with what may cost you nothing.

  • Stalled, won't restart: run the VIN for 25V676, and on an early 2013 for 13V521 too. A blown fuel pump fuse is a different problem from a dead engine.
  • Air bag light on: check 14V138 and 16V244 by VIN.
  • CVT gone: none of the Nissan CVT warranty extensions we found names the NV200. Have a Nissan dealer check the VIN for any coverage, then ask for the quote on paper and weigh it against what a running NV200 of the same year brings. Our bad transmission guide goes through that.

Selling your NV200 whole

Tell us the year, whether it's a cargo van or an ex-taxi, the mileage and what's wrong. Mention a roof rack or shelving if it's fitted. Then get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.

Clear your tools and stock out of the cargo area, but leave the van itself whole: wheels, battery and catalytic converter stay on. Let us know where the van is and if it can roll. If the title is in a company's name rather than yours, read the guide for a car titled to someone else first. For plates and paperwork after the sale, see after you sell.

Questions people ask

What does recall 25V676 fix on the NV200?
On 2013-2021 NV200 vans, 2014-2017 and 2019 NV200 taxis and 2015-2018 Chevrolet City Express vans, the fuel tank temperature sensor harness may have been routed wrong. The wires can be damaged and short the fuel pump fuse, and the engine can stall. It covers 173,301 vehicles and was filed in October 2025.
Is there a CVT warranty extension for the NV200?
None that we found. The Nissan CVT extensions we read cover the Altima, Sentra, Versa, Rogue, Pathfinder, Murano and Maxima, and none of them names the NV200. A Nissan dealer can still check your VIN for anything open.
Why does NHTSA show so few NV200 complaints?
Only 34 complaints are filed under NV200 or NV200 Taxi, and the busiest year, 2016, has seven. NHTSA files Nissan's full-size NV van under a separate model name, so its complaints are not counted here.
Do you buy an ex-taxi NV200 or a Chevrolet City Express?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, vans included, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Say which version it is, the mileage, and what's wrong.
