Selling a dead or junk car in Indian Trail
A loose tarp will not pass in Indian Trail. The town permits one junked car in the rear yard, under "an acceptable covering that is fitted to the vehicle and covers the full vehicle to the wheels." Section 90.01.06 also makes it "unlawful to have more than one junked motor vehicle" on a lot. If yours is car number two, or no fitted cover exists for it, we buy whole non-running and junk cars, and free pickup anywhere in the US reaches Union County.

Indian Trail's one-car limit
Under Section 90.01.01, a junked car "does not display a current license plate lawfully upon that vehicle" and meets a further state-law condition. Past the single covered car out back, "Any other junked motor vehicle must be kept in a garage or building structure that provides a complete enclosure."
The authorizing official may order removal on a written finding that "the aesthetic benefits of removing the vehicle outweigh the burdens imposed on the private property owner."
Deputies or code enforcement
Indian Trail divides the work. In Indian Trail, Section 90.01.08 puts abandoned cars on streets and town property with "the sheriff's office." Abandoned, nuisance and junked cars on private land, town property and town streets go to "the code enforcement officer." Yearly contracts with private tow operators may cover removal, storage and disposal.
Section 90.01.15 keeps the town off private property absent "a written request of the owner, occupant or lessee," except nuisances and junked cars already ordered out.
Indian Trail notices and reclaiming a car
Section 90.01.09 mails a junked-car notice "by first-class mail" if the owner is findable; failing that, it goes on the windshield. Towing waits "no sooner than seven days after the notice is affixed or mailed." Appeal is the other route.
After a tow, Section 90.01.13 allows recovery "at any stage in the proceedings," paying towing and storage or posting "a bond for double the amount." Section 90.01.07 forbids removal from storage before payment.
The 72-hour street rule
Section 71.01.06 counts a car as stored once it "has been standing in one place for a continuous period of more than 72 hours." Out front of the owner's own home, that applies "only when the vehicle does not have a license plate or has an expired license plate." A dead, expired-tag car at your Indian Trail curb is exactly its target.
Union County, titles and plates
Union appears on North Carolina's emissions list; safety inspection is annual everywhere. NCDMV titles run through plate agencies. We looked up three, measured straight from the center of Indian Trail: 3250 Wilkinson Blvd., Suite G, Charlotte, roughly 18 miles northwest; 929 Concord Parkway S., Suite D, Concord, roughly 22 miles north; 246 N. New Hope Road, Suite 239, Gastonia, about 31 miles northwest. Union may have others.
A notary witnesses the Indian Trail seller's title signature. Transferring a car while canceling its title as junked takes a notarized assignment; no new title follows, and the 3% highway use tax applies. Title held by a relative? See car not in your name.
Plates go home with you. Hand them back before canceling coverage unless another car gets them, and a prorated refund may come.

Questions people ask
- Does a tarp satisfy Indian Trail's junk-car rule?

- May an unplated car stay on the street outside my Indian Trail home?
- Section 71.01.06 treats standing in one place over 72 hours as street storage, which is banned. In front of the owner's residence, that applies when the plate is missing or expired.
- Who enforces junk-car rules in Indian Trail?
- Under Section 90.01.08, the sheriff's office handles abandoned cars on streets and town property. In Indian Trail, abandoned, nuisance and junked cars on town streets, town property or private land fall to the code enforcement officer.
- What applies when a North Carolina title is canceled as junked?
- A notarized assignment on the title's back, no new title issued, and the 3% highway use tax on that transfer.
