North Ridgeville and the 72-hour car
North Ridgeville's property code gives a car that doesn't run 72 hours. Section 1480.13 bars storing any motor vehicle "in an inoperative or unlicensed condition" on a lot for longer than that. A garage is the only exception for a homeowner, and the section as we read it sets no notice period.

Section 1480.13 in plain terms
- Who it covers: anyone keeping a dead or unregistered car on a lot anywhere in North Ridgeville.
- The limit: 72 hours.
- The way out: park it inside a garage, or move it off the property.
- Who is exempt: repair shops, towing yards and similar legal, permitted businesses.
Because "unlicensed" sits in the same sentence, a car can be covered even if it runs. The section doesn't say what makes a car unlicensed.
Streets, overnight and in snow
No car may park on any street or highway in the city between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Section 452.05 adds two limits: two days or more at the curb needs a word to the Chief of Police, and a car left on someone else's home lot without permission breaks the rule after four hours.
Two inches of snow inside of a day puts the city under a snow emergency, which ends only when the Mayor declares plowing over. The listed streets close to parking no less than one hour after the Mayor first announces it. A ticket can be settled for $25 at the Clerk of the Mayor's Court with a written guilty plea. A towed car is impounded at the owner's expense.
Towed cars and the police desk
Section 404.05 permits a police tow when a wreck can't be driven, or when a car has spent four hours or more on a residential lot without the owner's leave. Tow releases go through the dispatchers. Bring identification and evidence that you own the car or have the right to it; fines or a court bond come next, and the tow and storage bill last. The non-emergency line is (440) 490-2001.
Two counties, three title offices
North Ridgeville sits in Lorain County, but Ohio lets a seller walk into a neighboring county's office just as well. Straight-line distances from the Census center of town:
| Office | County | Distance |
|---|---|---|
| 226 Middle Ave., Elyria | Lorain | about 4.6 miles west |
| 26642 Brookpark Rd. Extension, North Olmsted | Cuyahoga | about 5.9 miles northeast |
| 621 Broadway, Lorain | Lorain | about 9.6 miles northwest |
Have a notary present when you sign the title. The buyer's clock then starts: a title application is due within 30 days of the assignment, with a $5 charge for a late one. Unbolt your plates at pickup. Ohio ends the registration when the car is sold, and the plates stay yours.
Getting an offer
Call (877) 421-6008 or start online. Describe the car, its odometer reading and what quit on it, whether a transmission, an engine or something else. Say where it's parked. Nothing needs fixing first.
Questions people ask
- Does the 72-hour rule cover a car that still runs?
- It can. Section 1480.13 covers a motor vehicle kept in an inoperative or unlicensed condition, so a car doesn't have to be broken to fall under it. The section we read doesn't define unlicensed. More than 72 hours on any lot is a violation, unless the car is inside a garage.
- What does a snow-emergency parking ticket cost in North Ridgeville?
- Section 452.12 lets you settle it for $25 at the Clerk of the Mayor's Court with a written guilty plea. If the car was towed, it is impounded at the owner's cost on top of that.
- Who do I call to get a towed car back?
- The police. Dispatchers handle tow releases; the non-emergency number is (440) 490-2001. At the station, bring ID and proof of ownership, settle fines or post bond, and pay the tow and storage bill.
