Euless code officers work for the police
Code Compliance in Euless is a unit of the Police Department. An officer reviews each complaint, rules on whether a violation exists, and notifies the owner. Report one at 817-685-1507 or through Access Euless. Two items on the city's common-violations list matter for a dead car: open storage and parking on an unapproved surface. Non-emergency police: 817-685-1526.
Euless and state law
Texas Transportation Code chapter 683 lets cities write their own junk-car procedures, so long as they include ten days' notice and a hearing. Euless publishes its own article on eCode360, and other city rules may also apply.
Under that article, a self-propelled car counts as junked once it is wrecked, dismantled or discarded. Not running also qualifies, after 72 hours dead on public land in Euless, or 30 days dead on private land. The article also reaches cars with lapsed plates or no plate at all. When a junked car sits in view of a Euless street or right-of-way, the city declares it a public nuisance, and maintaining one is an offense.
The Euless ten-day clock
The Euless police chief, or someone he authorizes, serves the notice. Certified mail carries it, five-day return requested, addressed to the Euless car's registered owner, its lienholders, and the premises' owner or tenant. Where Euless knows no address, the code allows posting the notice on the vehicle, or giving it to the owner directly.
Private lot, public property or right-of-way, the period is identical: ten days to abate, and any hearing request must land before day ten ends. Euless's municipal judge hears it and treats the car as inoperable until you prove otherwise.
Missing the ten days, or ignoring a court order, is a misdemeanor in Euless, each violation charged separately. The Euless general penalty section reaches $2,000 for rules governing fire safety, zoning, public health and sanitation. If the nuisance remains, the court orders removal; police and city staff may then enter the property to identify the car and haul it off. Euless may send it off to a scrapyard, to a demolisher, or to a city site, after which the car can never be rebuilt or driven on Euless streets again. A Euless car locked in a garage, out of view from the street and from neighboring lots, stays outside the process.
Euless impounds
After 48 hours left unlawfully on public property, a car counts as abandoned in Euless, and police may take custody. Euless police get ten days to put a certified letter in the mail to the owner and any lienholders. Through day 20 after that notice, the owner can reclaim it by covering the towing, preservation and storage costs. Later than that, Euless treats you as giving up every right in the car and agreeing to a public auction.
Tarrant County and Texas title rules
Euless lies entirely in Tarrant County. Tarrant County's tax assessor-collector, 100 E Weatherford St, Fort Worth, is roughly 16 miles southwest of Euless, as the crow flies; (817) 884-1100. Your buyer files the title application there.
Texas keeps the seller's part short. The Euless seller signs the title and adds the sale date and odometer figure. Sign a Form 130-U with the price. Skip the notary; none is needed. Within a month of the sale, file the seller's notice with TxDMV, on the web or on paper VTR-346. Done on time, it means the buyer's tolls and parking tickets cannot land on you. Plates are yours to keep. Tarrant still tests emissions, so a buyer who means to register the car may want its last Vehicle Inspection Report.
Getting an offer
Go online or dial (877) 421-6008. Tell us the make, model and year, a mileage guess, any sign of life from the engine, and the title status. Pickup happens where the car sits: a Euless driveway, an apartment lot, a shop. Nearby: Bedford, Colleyville, Grapevine. Statewide: Texas.
