Selling a dead or junk car in Saratoga Springs
The Provo DMV office we looked up is about 16 miles southeast of central Saratoga Springs in a straight line. That is a long drive for one form, and Utah does not make you take it to close out a sale: the notice that you sold the car can go online, by phone or by mail. If the car is dead and you would rather not fix it, we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

Closing out the sale from home
Utah's DMV sits inside the State Tax Commission as its Motor Vehicle Division, and a Saratoga Springs seller has four ways to tell it the car is gone:
- Online. Use Report Sold Vehicle on the Motor Vehicle Portal (MVP).
- A letter. Put the year, the make, the plate or VIN and your signature on paper and mail it to the division's contact center, P.O. Box 30412, in Salt Lake City.
- TC-502. The Application to Cancel Registration does the same job.
- The phone. Dial 1-800-DMV-UTAH.
Anyone who still prefers a counter will find the Provo office on East Center Street, number 150, in suite 1400.
What the buyer gets from you
Three papers go across: the title with your signature, the current registration certificate, and an emission certificate when one applies. Saratoga Springs falls in Utah County, one of five counties that test. Once the deal is done, the clock on getting the title to your buyer is 48 hours.
There is no notary step. Read the small word between two owners' names: AND, and you both sign; OR, and either of you may. A bill of sale is the paper that shows the title really moved, and TC-843 is the state's blank if you want one.
Lost the title? Saratoga Springs sellers can skip ordering a replacement in their own name. Part two of TC-123 assigns and releases ownership straight to the buyer. A plain replacement is $6.00, online or on that same form. See junk car with no title.
Plates
The plate stays yours unless the sale includes it, so take it off. Utah's DMV warns that a seller who leaves it bolted on may answer for parking or traffic tickets run up after the sale.
When a dead car becomes a problem
Saratoga Springs city code wasn't online for us, so this section uses state law. Local rules may add more. Past the 48-hour mark, a car left alone on a highway counts as abandoned in Utah's eyes. Off the highway in Saratoga Springs, the law reaches a car left "on public or private property for a period in excess of seven days without express or implied consent of the owner or person in control of the property." That is an infraction, and an officer with good reason can order a tow. If yours needs hauling now, see junk car removal.
Getting an offer

Questions people ask
- Can I finish a Utah car sale from Saratoga Springs without going to Provo?
- Yes. Saratoga Springs sellers can mark the car sold on the online Motor Vehicle Portal, phone 1-800-DMV-UTAH, or post a written notice to the division's contact center box in Salt Lake City.
- What has to go in a mailed notice of sale?
- Year, make, plate number or VIN, and your signature as owner. TC-502, which cancels the registration, is the other paper option.
- Does Saratoga Springs have its own junk-car rule?
- We couldn't locate the city's code online. Utah's statute covers a car left "on public or private property for a period in excess of seven days without express or implied consent of the owner or person in control of the property." Saratoga Springs may add its own rules on top.
