Selling a junk or dead car in Marysville
Ten days is what Marysville allows. After police send written notice under Municipal Code 11.36.010, both the registered owner and the property owner have that long to clear the car away or ask a judge to hear the case. Rather than spend those days on it, you can sell: we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, and pickup is free anywhere in the US, Marysville included.

Marysville's nuisance definition
The chapter leans on state definitions. Keeping an unauthorized vehicle "or a junk vehicle as defined in RCW 46.55.010(4), or parts of a junk vehicle, on private property is a public nuisance subject to removal and impoundment by the city." Under the state test, three of four marks make a car junk: "three years old or older," "extensively damaged," "apparently inoperable," and a value matching scrap.
Cars on public streets fall under the state's model traffic ordinance instead. This chapter targets private ground: the driveway, the side yard, the back lot.
The 10-day clock, step by step
- Written notice. Police write to "the last registered owner of the vehicle, and to the property owner of record."
- Ten days to respond. Within that time, "either the nuisance must be abated or a written request for a hearing before Marysville municipal court must be filed with the police chief."
- The hearing, if someone requests one. The landowner and the registered and legal owners get its date, time and place "by certified mail, with a five-day return receipt requested."
- Removal. Then an officer has the car hauled to "a licensed motor vehicle wrecker or hulk hauler," and the State Patrol plus DOL get word that it was wrecked.
Who gets the bill
The last registered owner pays for removal, unless they did the transfer the way state law says. Failing that, the code lets the city charge whoever owns the land under the car. That makes the transfer paperwork worth doing right, including the Report of Sale within 5 days. With a notice already in hand, read notice to remove a car.
Title and plates
Marysville belongs to Snohomish County. We checked the county's title counter at 3000 Rockefeller Ave, Everett, 8 miles or so due south of central Marysville, as the crow flies.
No valid title, no sale in Washington. A lost one can be replaced (4 to 8 weeks), or DOL may accept one of two affidavits in its place: Loss/Release of Interest, or In Lieu of Title. Selling with no title covers both. Sign the title and a bill of sale, then file the Report of Sale within five days. DOL says it keeps tow bills and the next owner's actions off the seller. Pull the plates before the Marysville car leaves. You can turn them in or save them for a future car of the same type.

Questions people ask
- Marysville police left me a junk-vehicle notice. What's my deadline?
- Under Section 11.36.010, you get 10 days after the written notice to fix the nuisance or send the police chief a written request for a hearing in Marysville municipal court.
- If Marysville hauls the car away, who is billed?
- The last registered owner, when identifiable, unless that owner completed the transfer as state law requires. Otherwise the costs can go to whoever owns the land the car sat on.
- Where does a car removed by Marysville end up?
- Once notice is given and any hearing is held, an officer has it taken to a licensed wrecker or hulk hauler, and the State Patrol and DOL are told it was wrecked.
- Lost title. Can I still sell?
- Washington wants a valid title first. Marysville owners wait 4 to 8 weeks for the replacement, though DOL may take an affidavit instead (Loss/Release of Interest, or In Lieu of Title).
