Selling a junk or dead car in Bullhead City

A disabled car on a Bullhead City street gets seven days before Section 10.12.070 declares it "an abandoned vehicle." On your own lot the code allows no such cushion. Section 8.08.050 says "It is unlawful for any person or responsible party to place, park, or store an abandoned, junked, dismantled, or inoperable vehicle or parts thereof, in an unsheltered manner on any lot or area within the city." We buy whole non-running and junk cars, so you can sell the whole car as it sits, and free pickup anywhere in the US includes Bullhead City.

Bullhead City's junked-vehicle test

Section 8.08.030 is broad. A vehicle is abandoned or junked if it is "discarded, dismantled, inoperative, scrapped, stripped, wrecked, on blocks or similar devices, or has deflated or missing tires and/or which is without the required current registration." Two soft tires and stale tags qualify on two counts.

The nuisance list also names "An accumulation of inoperable vehicles."

Sidewalk, street and city property

  • Sidewalk: "more than twenty-four hours" makes a vehicle abandoned.
  • Street: a disabled one gets "more than seven days."
  • City land: a junked or inoperable car may not be kept "upon any city right-of-way, street, alley, or other city property" at all.

Under 10.12.070 the police "shall forthwith remove the same," and the owner pays.

For-sale signs and cleanup dumpsters

Advertising the car from the yard has limits. Parking "any vehicle for sale upon any lot" is unlawful unless it is one car belonging to the resident, or one shown with the owner's written permission, and the lot "has not been used for this purpose more than two times in any calendar year." Otherwise: "Vehicles parked in violation of the regulations set forth in this subsection shall be towed by the city immediately at the expense of the vehicle owner."

If you are clearing several, 8.08.090 lets a roll-off sit up to "fifteen days" while the premises are "cleaned and cleared of any abandoned or junked vehicles." Several junk cars explains selling them together.

Alonas Way and the paperwork

We checked an MVD office at 1325 Alonas Way, roughly 3 miles southwest of central Bullhead City as the crow flies. Arizona titles never pass through the county; MVD and authorized Third Party offices handle them, and titles live electronically. Many sellers finish online with eTitle Transfer. Bullhead City sellers with paper sign its back and hand it to the driver at pickup. MVD's seller steps name no notary.

The plates come off and stay yours. You have 30 days to put them on another vehicle, hand them in, or swear an affidavit that they were destroyed, and leftover registration can be credited back, less $12. The Sold Notice is due within 10 days and costs nothing, through AZMVDNow.gov or form 46-8502.
