Queen Creek: your options for a car that stopped running
Queen Creek is split between Maricopa and Pinal counties, and its ordinances did not turn up in any online code library we searched. So the rulebook we can cite for a dead car in Queen Creek is Arizona's Title 28, and the town may layer its own requirements over it. The state version begins with a clock: ARS 28-4801 calls a car left alone for three days, on public or private land, "prima facie evidence" of abandonment. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, so you can sell the whole car as it sits and skip the clock, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

Arizona's rules for a car that quit moving
Three days is the general mark; a car sitting in a road right-of-way gets just two. Abandoning a vehicle is banned outright, even on private property, under ARS 28-4831. Because ARS 28-4833 hands towns the power to write their own removal ordinances, a Queen Creek neighbor's complaint might be judged by a stricter local standard than this one.
Lapsed tags do not settle it alone. ARS 28-4834 says a Queen Creek tenant's car in an authorized space isn't abandoned just because its registration lapsed. And a landlord who wants a stranger's car hauled off must put that permission in writing on an MVD form.
The MVD sequence once a car is called abandoned
- Notice by mail goes to the owner and any lienholder: inside 5 days when Arizona has the car on record, inside 30 days otherwise (ARS 28-4841).
- From there, 30 days to come forward.
- Unclaimed and not stolen, the car can be retitled to whoever is holding it, the tow yard for example, with liens wiped (ARS 28-4842).
- Separately, ARS 28-4802 bills the owner of record a fee, added on at the next license or registration renewal.
People who walked away from a car years ago often meet that fee at the renewal counter.
Title office distance and paperwork
ADOT MVD's hours-and-locations page lists an office at 240 W Cottonwood Ln in Casa Grande. In a straight line it is roughly 25 miles south of central Queen Creek. We looked up just that one, and there are others. Arizona handles titles at state MVD and authorized Third Party locations rather than county counters, and AZ MVD Now covers a lot without a trip.
Arizona keeps titles electronically, so owners no longer get a paper title automatically. A Queen Creek seller can finish the job through eTitle Transfer, or by signing on the reverse of a paper title before the buyer leaves with it. The seller steps ADOT MVD publishes include no notary. A 2011 or later model usually also needs the mileage disclosed.
Your plate and the 10-day report
The plate is yours to keep, so unscrew it first. Registration lapses the moment the car is sold, and you then have 30 days to put that plate on another car, return it to MVD, or sign an affidavit saying it was destroyed. Unused registration months can come back as a credit, less a $12 processing charge.
Report the sale inside 10 days with a Sold Notice, online at AZMVDNow.gov or on paper form 46-8502, at no charge. Once that report is on file, ARS 28-4835 says it rebuts the presumption that you, as last registered owner, walked away from the car. More on the wrap-up in after you sell.

Getting an offer
Reach us at (877) 421-6008 or online. For a Queen Creek car, the offer form is the place to start. Our truck goes to it, so a pasture gate, a side yard or a garage in a newer subdivision all work.
Questions people ask
- Is there a Queen Creek ordinance on junk cars?
- We found none online, so Arizona statutes carry this page. Arizona towns may adopt their own removal rules, so call Queen Creek before assuming the state floor is the whole story.
- What does MVD do with a car it decides was abandoned?
- It writes to the owner and lienholder, within 5 days if Arizona holds the record or 30 days if not, and allows 30 days to claim. A car nobody claims, if not stolen, can be retitled lien-free to the holder, often a tow yard. The prior owner still faces an MVD fee when renewing a registration or license.
- Will I need a notary to sign my Arizona title over?
- The seller instructions from ADOT MVD mention none. You sign the reverse of the paper title, or complete eTitle Transfer online.
