Dead car in Siloam Springs? Sell it whole

Siloam Springs allows a dead car 15 days in public view. Section 94-127: "It is unlawful to have any unlicensed or inoperative motor vehicle exposed to public view on any private premises for a period of more than 15 days." If fixing or moving it inside that span isn't realistic, we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.

Four Siloam Springs clocks

  • 48 hours, street. Section 94-125: "It is unlawful for any person to leave an inoperative motor vehicle on any public street or in any public place for a period of more than 48 hours."
  • 72 hours, abandoned. Section 66-21 calls a car abandoned once it is "left on public or private property ... for a period of more than 72 hours, regardless of whether wrecked or inoperable."
  • 15 days, visible. The 94-127 limit, private land.
  • One year, carport. Section 66-31 permits a wrecked or inoperable car in a carport up to a year if it belongs to the owner or tenant, repairs are "effectively progressing," and "all such work is performed inside the structure."

Exempt from the 15 days: cars inside buildings, cars at a licensed business zoned for it, and operable drag-strip or raceway machines.

Uninsured counts as inoperable

Section 66-21 treats a car as inoperable when it "cannot be driven upon the public streets for reason including but not limited to being unlicensed, uninsured, wrecked, abandoned, in a state of disrepair." So a Siloam Springs car that starts but has lapsed coverage qualifies. Beyond a fully enclosed building, it may sit only in "an approved storage area on property that is properly zoned and permitted for that purpose."

Counting a notice in Siloam Springs

Under Section 66-84, a code officer can have the car hauled away once a notice of violation is fixed to it. Counting is precise: the code treats "the first day of the notice period as the day after written notice is given," includes weekends and holidays, and runs through the final minute before midnight on the last day. Notice to remove a car covers replying to one.
