Selling a broken or wrecked Buick Envision
The Envision is built in China. Wikipedia lists its assembly at Yantai, at the SAIC-GM Dongyue Motors plant, for both generations. Among U.S. model years, the 2017 stands out in NHTSA's file: 81 of the 245 complaints owners have filed, about one in three.

First generation in the U.S.: 2016-2020
The EPA lists the Envision from 2016, in front-wheel and all-wheel drive. Wikipedia dates the first generation's production from 2014 to 2023 on GM's D2XX platform, related to the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. Its engines include a 2.0 L LTG turbo four and a 2.5 L LCV four, with a 6-speed automatic or a 9-speed automatic on the 2.0.
These five model years hold 148 complaints. Most of that is the 2017. Its top components are service brakes (18), the electrical system (17), and complaints NHTSA files as unknown or other (8).
All five first-generation recalls cover the 2016, and four of them also cover the 2017:
- 16V922 (2016 only): brake lines at the master cylinder may crack and leak brake fluid. Dealers replaced them. This campaign counts 327 vehicles, built from January 19 to March 18, 2016.
- 18V358 (2016-2017): dealers replaced the high-pressure fuel pump and fuel pipe. The campaign also lists the Malibu, Colorado, Canyon, Acadia, Equinox, Terrain, LaCrosse and Cadillac ATS.
- 16V516 (2016-2017): the tire and loading label may show the wrong maximum weight.
- 17V404 (2016-2017): an accessory tablet holder may have been put on the front head restraints the wrong way.
- 17V412 (2016-2017): a replacement headliner may lack its impact-absorbing foam. This campaign counts 10 vehicles.
From 2018 to 2020, NHTSA lists no recall campaigns. Complaints run 14, 23 and 11.
Second generation: 2021 on
Wikipedia lists a second generation from 2021, built on the E2XX platform it shares with the Cadillac XT4. It has a 2.0 L LSY turbo four and a 9-speed automatic.
Complaints from 2021 to 2025 total 97. The 2021's most-named area is fuel and propulsion (5), and the 2022's is the electrical system (8). These Envisions have also been driven for fewer years than the 2017.
Two of the four second-generation recalls are big GM-wide software fixes, so their vehicle counts are not Envision counts:
- 21V421 (2021): the communications gateway module affects the air bag warning light. A dealer or a wireless download installs the new software. The campaign counts 285,622 vehicles across Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC.
- 22V903 (2021-2023): new body control module software for the lighting, delivered either of those two ways. The campaign counts 740,108 vehicles across many GM trucks and cars.
- 24V710 (2024): the tire size and loading label is missing.
- 26V114 (2026): dealers reset the Envision radio so it can download the digital owner's manual.

From NHTSA's file, read October 10, 2026. Twelve Envision complaints in all mention a tow and 2 mention a fire. Recall 26V114 covers the 2026 model year, which has no complaints listed yet.
Fix it or sell it?
An Envision is new enough that a repair can make sense. Ask the shop to put the repair in writing, then compare it to what a working Envision of your year brings.
- Search your VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup. Some second-generation fixes arrive over the air, but a dealer can confirm they took.
- Warning lights and dead modules? Our electrical problems guide walks through what to check before you decide.
- Crash damage? If the insurer hasn't totaled it, see wrecked or totaled for how to weigh the repair.
Selling an Envision whole
- Note the VIN, the miles, and AWD or FWD.
- Describe the damage, and say if it can roll and be steered onto a truck.
- Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008. Pickup is free anywhere in the US, from a driveway, a lot or a body shop.
- Sell the whole car as it sits. Don't pull the battery, wheels or converter first.
- Still paying it off? See still owe on the loan before the pickup.

Questions people ask
- Which Envision year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- It is the 2017 Envision, with 81 of the 245 NHTSA had logged by our October 10, 2026 count. Service brakes (18) and the electrical system (17) lead that year. A 2023 or 2024 Envision has only been driven a few years, so owners have had little chance to write in yet.
- Was the Envision's fuel pump recalled?
- Some were. Recall 18V358 replaced the high-pressure fuel pump and fuel pipe on certain 2016-2017 Envisions. The campaign also covers other GM models, such as the Chevrolet Malibu and GMC Acadia, and counts 895 vehicles in all.
- Will you buy an Envision after a crash or a dead engine?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Describe what happened, whether it moves at all, and its location.
