Selling a dead or junk car in Glendora
Glendora spreads over 19.51 square miles along the old Route 66, and a car can quit anywhere in that space. Where it stops changes the clock. Leave one on a Glendora street with its engine, wheels or windshield gone, and state law allows it to be hauled off that same day. If you would rather sell it before that happens, we buy whole non-running and junk cars, and you sell the whole car as it sits.

Does Glendora have its own junk-car rule?
We searched online and could not find Glendora's code, so this page quotes none of it. Sacramento leaves this to each city: Vehicle Code 22660 allows a local ordinance treating wrecked, dismantled or dead cars as nuisances, removing them from lots and streets alike, and billing the expense back. That means a junker on a Glendora lot answers first to Glendora, which may set limits of its own on time and place. Phone the city before assuming you have weeks to deal with it.
Three state rules that reach Glendora streets
- No wait for a stripped car. VC 22669 gives removal power to peace officers and to city staff designated for it, once they believe a car is abandoned. When parts such as the transmission, doors or tires are gone and the car is on a public right-of-way, it can be taken at once.
- 72 hours parked. Three days on one stretch of Glendora curb, if that breaks a local parking rule, is enough for a tow under VC 22651.
- Walking away costs more. Abandoning a car on a Glendora road breaks VC 22523. Leaving it on someone's land without consent is banned too. In Glendora you'd face a fine of $100 or more and have to show you paid for the removal.
The registration lapsed years ago
A car that has been parked in a Glendora garage since its tags ran out can still be sold, but expect the DMV to bill each skipped year, penalties included, if no one ever filed REG 102 to put it on Planned Non-Operation. Our sitting for years guide covers what else tends to go wrong with a long-parked car. If parts were pulled off it along the way, see missing parts.
Title, smog and plates
No county office is involved in a Glendora title. The state DMV handles it at its field offices, or by post. Your signature goes on the Glendora car's Certificate of Title, and so does any lender's on record. After that, the buyer handles the paperwork and the transfer fee. Nowhere in those DMV steps does a notary appear.
Whether you owe a smog test turns on what happens to the car next. Junking it, meaning the buyer will wreck or dismantle it, takes it out of the Smog Check rule. In Glendora any other sale puts the smog test on you as seller, except for an EV, a motorcycle, a gas car from before 1976, a diesel from 1997 or earlier, or a gas or hybrid model within four model years of new.
Give the DMV your REG 138 release inside 5 days; Glendora sellers can do it on the DMV website or send it in. Ordinary plates ride along with the car to its next owner, though a car being recorded as Junk has its plates turned in. More on the last steps is in after you sell.

Getting an offer
Have a dead car in Glendora? Call (877) 421-6008 or start with the offer form. Pickup is free anywhere in the US, so a garage off Glendora Avenue or the shop lot where it gave out are both fine places for the truck to load it.
Questions people ask
- Does Glendora give me a grace period for a dead car on my own property?
- We could not find Glendora's own code online, so we cannot quote one. California hands that question to cities, so a Glendora ordinance could exist; confirm with the city before you assume any waiting period.
- My car broke down on a Glendora street and is missing a wheel. How long do I have?
- Possibly none. If a Glendora car on public ground is missing a wheel or other essential pieces, Vehicle Code 22669 allows its removal at once.
- The car sat unregistered for years. Do I owe back fees before selling?
- Usually. Each lapsed year carries fees plus penalties at the DMV, and the exception is a car someone placed on Planned Non-Operation with REG 102.
- Will a notary have to witness the title signature?
- Not under the DMV's private-sale instructions, which name no notary. The one place notarizing shows up is section 5 of REG 227, when the DMV's record lists a lienholder or legal owner.
