The car is young, so most of what's on file is about software and the view out the windshield rather than worn-out parts. The recalls are mostly free updates, and the complaints are concentrated in two areas.

A separate car from the gas Equinox

Despite the name, the electric model shares little with the gasoline Equinox. It rides on GM's BEV3 platform with Global B electronics and an 85 kWh Ultium lithium-ion battery. Production began in January 2024 at Ramos Arizpe in Coahuila, Mexico, and the first cars reached dealers that May.

The 2024 came with front-wheel drive or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version making 290 hp. For 2025, output rose to 220 hp with front drive or 300 hp with all-wheel drive. EPA range is 319 miles for a front-drive 2024 or 2025 and 285 miles for the 2024 all-wheel drive. Fueleconomy.gov lists four 2025 versions: front drive, all-wheel drive, and two more all-wheel-drive entries named for an 11 kW or a 19 kW onboard charger.

Glare on the windshield

Nearly half of all complaints, 137 of 281, sit under NHTSA's visibility and wiper category. Read the narratives and most are not about wipers at all. In the 2024 write-ups NHTSA's API returns under that label, 57 of 58 mention glare or reflection; for the 2025 it is 74 of 80. Owners describe sunlight bouncing off the dashboard onto the glass so strongly they can barely see the road.

No recall covers that. The one bulletin we found for this area, GM's 25-NA-027, is about the wipers themselves: on 2024-2025 cars the two blades can touch or leave a patch of unwiped glass near the pillar because the arms were not lined up on the motor's pivot shaft. The fix is an arm adjustment. One 2025 owner says a glare bulletin, 25-NA-069, was installed on their car, but it is not posted on NHTSA's site, so we can't say what it does.

Brakes that act on their own

The second cluster is forward collision avoidance: 43 complaints across the three model years. A 2024 owner reported automatic emergency braking kicking in at an intersection with nothing in the way. A 2025 driver said the car braked hard at about 65 mph and dropped to roughly 50 for no reason. No GM bulletin, recall or federal investigation that explains it turned up.

There is a recall for the opposite problem. On 2,890 all-wheel-drive 2025 cars, recall 25V012 fixed brake module software that could keep adaptive cruise control from braking when it should.

Seven recalls, mostly software

  • Pedestrian alert sound. Three campaigns cover the low-speed warning sound that federal standard FMVSS 141 requires. Recall 24V925 (7,606 cars, 2025) fixed software that left it too quiet. Recalls 25V639 (23,700 cars, 2024) and 25V878 (81,177 cars, 2025-2026) fixed a sound that barely changed between standing still and creeping forward. Each is a body control module update, some over the air.
  • Adaptive cruise, 25V012, as above.
  • Tires. Recall 25V704 covers 2025-2026 cars on 21-inch Continental all-season tires that can shed part or all of the tread. The 22,914 count includes the Cadillac Optiq. Dealers check all four and replace any built in DOT week 4024.
  • Door strikers. Recall 24V737 involved 731 2025 Blazer, Blazer EV and Equinox vehicles still in dealer stock. NHTSA maps it to this model, but the recall text names the Equinox, not the Equinox EV.
  • Owner's manual. Recall 26V114 resets the radio on some 2025-2026 GM models, this one included, so the electronic owner's manual downloads.

Across all three years the file holds 5 crash reports, 4 injuries and no fires.

Keep it, claim it, or sell it?

  1. Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup. The campaigns above are all free repairs.
  2. Check the warranty. Chevrolet's 2025 booklet says "The complete vehicle is covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first." We did not read GM's battery warranty terms, so ask a dealer what still applies to yours.
  3. After a crash, get the insurer's or the body shop's estimate in writing before deciding. Our airbags deployed guide covers what usually happens next.
  4. Still owe on it? Selling a car with a loan explains the payoff. What a junk car is worth covers what moves an offer.

How to sell an Equinox EV whole

  1. Jot down the VIN, mileage, drive layout (one motor or two) and the problem.
  2. Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Explain where it's parked (a garage, a driveway, a body shop lot) and whether it powers on and rolls.
  4. Leave everything on it, including the charging cable if you have it. Mention anything missing.
  5. When the truck comes, have the title (or your lender's payoff details), a photo ID and the key fobs. After you sell covers plates and insurance by state.

Questions people ask

Is there a recall for the dashboard glare on the Equinox EV?
No. NHTSA files these complaints under visibility and wipers, and 137 sit there, but no recall covers glare. GM bulletin 25-NA-027 deals only with wiper arms that touch or leave unwiped glass. One owner mentions a glare bulletin numbered 25-NA-069; we could not find it on NHTSA's site.
Why does my Equinox EV brake hard when nothing is there?
Owners have filed 43 complaints under forward collision avoidance describing that, but we found no recall, bulletin or investigation that names a cause. File your own report at nhtsa.gov and ask a dealer to check for software updates.
Which recalls apply to my Equinox EV?
It depends on the year. The 2024 has one (pedestrian alert sound). The 2025 has six, including the alert sound, an adaptive cruise fix on all-wheel-drive cars and 21-inch Continental tires. A VIN lookup at nhtsa.gov shows which are open on yours.
Can I sell an Equinox EV I still owe money on?
Yes. The lender holds the title until the balance is cleared, so the payoff comes first. Our loan payoff guide lays out each step in order.
Will you take an Equinox EV that won't power on or move?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, electric ones included, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Say that it's electric, whether the screen lights up, and where it's parked.
