Selling a damaged or dead Chevrolet Blazer EV
A Blazer EV that has been in a crash, has a parking brake that won't release, or is worth less than the loan can still be sold as one piece. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.

One generation, built in Mexico
GM builds the Blazer EV at Ramos Arizpe, Mexico; production began in November 2023 for the 2024 model year. Front-wheel and all-wheel drive are offered, and a rear-drive version was sold through 2025. Ultium batteries come in 85 and 102 kWh sizes. fueleconomy.gov gives 324 miles of range for the 2024 RWD, 312 for the 2026 FWD and 283 for the 2025 AWD.
The December 2023 stop sale
GM halted sales and deliveries of the 2024 Blazer EV on December 22, 2023. A GM bulletin says some of the halted cars then waited in its logistics network long enough to drain their 12-volt batteries. Customer Satisfaction Program N242436240 followed: a software update across several modules, with no parts, done only at an authorized EV dealer by a trained technician. The bulletin revision we read ends the program on March 31, 2026, so ask a dealer whether it still applies.
The recalls so far
- Parking brake harness, 25V433 (June 2025). On 2024-2025 cars the rear parking brake wiring can be damaged or corrode. The brake may then apply while driving, or fail to hold a parked car so it rolls. Dealers inspect, reroute and tape the harness and replace damaged ones; letters went out October 1, 2025. All 40,233 vehicles are Blazer EVs. Under 26V031, 20 of them that may have been fixed wrongly get a new chassis harness.
- Front control arm, 24V487. 83 cars from 2024 with a right front lower control arm that may break.
- Rear drive unit, 24V320. Motor wires that can touch and cut drive power. The 10 vehicles in this campaign span the Blazer EV, Silverado EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and GMC Hummer EV SUV and Sierra EV.
- Door strikers, 23V869 and 24V737. Strikers that can break and let a door open. Those campaigns count 265 and 731 vehicles, shared with the gas Blazer, the Equinox and, in the first one, the GMC Terrain. All 731 in the second were still in dealer stock.
- Owner's manual, 26V114. Some 2026 cars, among many GM models, need a radio reset so the electronic manual downloads.
Complaints and recalls by model year
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes reported | Injuries reported | Recalls | Named most often |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 78 | 4 | 27 | 5 | Service brakes (16) |
| 2025 | 21 | 1 | 3 | 3 | Collision avoidance, service brakes (6 each) |
| 2026 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | None filed yet |
| All years | 99 | 5 | 30 | 7 campaigns | Service brakes (22) |
Two parking brake campaigns cover both 2024 and 2025, so the rows add to more than seven. No recall addresses the 22 service brake, 18 forward collision avoidance or 12 wiper complaints.
Fix it, wait, or sell?
Open recalls cost nothing to fix, so start with NHTSA's recall lookup. After a crash, the repair estimate and your insurer's numbers decide most of it; our wrecked car guide covers that choice. When the loan balance tops the car's value, read car loan owed before signing anything.
Selling a Blazer EV whole
- Have ready the VIN, the mileage, what happened, and whether the car powers on.
- Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say where the car sits, whether a home garage, body shop or parking deck, and whether it can be shifted to Neutral, since a parking brake stuck on changes how it gets loaded.
- Keep it whole, charging cable included if you still have it, and hand over the title, or tell us who holds it.
Questions people ask
- How do I know if the parking brake recall was done on my Blazer EV?
- Look the car up by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls; 25V433 covers 2024-2025 cars. If a dealer already did that repair, also look for 26V031, which calls back 20 cars that may have been repaired incorrectly.
- Has the Blazer EV had a high-voltage battery recall?
- Not in NHTSA's list as of October 10, 2026. The seven campaigns on file cover the parking brake harness, door strikers, a front control arm, rear drive unit wiring and the electronic owner's manual.
- Can I sell a Blazer EV I still owe money on?
- Yes, once the lender releases its lien. That takes paying off the loan, and the sale money can go toward it. Our car loan guide walks through the payoff steps.
- Why was the Blazer EV on stop sale in December 2023?
- GM stopped sales and deliveries of the 2024 Blazer EV on December 22, 2023 and later ran a software update program, N242436240, that reprograms several modules. Some cars sat in transit long enough that their 12-volt batteries ran low.
