Selling a dead or junk Fisker Ocean
Fisker filed for bankruptcy protection in June 2024, and Ocean production ran only from 2022 to 2024. Owners were left with a young electric SUV that had already logged more than 100 loss-of-power incidents and three NHTSA investigations, according to Wikipedia. If yours sits dead in the driveway, you can sell it whole. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

One short run, two kinds of Ocean
Every Ocean was built in Graz, Austria, by Magna Steyr, from 2022 to 2024. EPA data covers the 2023 and 2024 model years, in three listed versions: Extreme One, Sport 20in and Sport 22in.
What sits under the floor depends on the trim, per Wikipedia:
- Sport: one motor in front, front-wheel drive, a lithium iron phosphate battery, and 231 miles of EPA range.
- One, Extreme and Ultra: two motors and all-wheel drive, a nickel manganese cobalt battery, and 350 to 360 miles of EPA range.
Both use a single-speed drive unit. Knowing your trim helps when you describe the car for an offer.
What owners reported, tied to the recalls
Ocean owners had sent NHTSA 884 complaints by October 10, 2026. Twelve report a crash, three a fire, seven an injury, and eight a tow. No deaths are listed. The components owners named most:
| Component | Complaints |
|---|---|
| Electrical system | 256 |
| Service brakes | 241 |
| Unknown or other | 135 |
| Forward collision avoidance | 44 |
| Power train | 37 |
| Structure | 33 |
Losing drive power
Electrical complaints top the list. Two recalls are worth checking. Recall 24V404 covers all 2023 Oceans: motor and vehicle control software could drop the car into a protective safe state without warning. Recall 24V499 covers 2023 and 2024 cars. A communication fault with the cabin electric water pump could push the battery management system into limp mode. The listed fixes were an over-the-air software update and a free pump replacement.
Brakes and rolling away
Service brakes come second, at 241 complaints. Recall 24V623 says brake module software could cut regenerative braking without warning, so the car stops less well. Recall 24V865 is filed under the brake-hold software, but its defect is the gear selector: the car may not shift into the chosen gear and can roll while in Drive or Reverse. Both remedies were over-the-air updates.
Doors and the dash
Recall 24V466 covers stuck exterior door handles that would not open, on 2023 and 2024 cars. The remedy was to inspect and replace the handles. Wikipedia cites an NHTSA preliminary probe into door failure as well. Recall 24V405 fixed the instrument panel, which showed the brake, park and ABS warning lights at the wrong font size.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Owner complaints tallied through October 10, 2026, from NHTSA data. Each recall column counts campaigns naming that year; the vehicle figure is NHTSA's total for the whole campaign.
| Model year | Complaints | Recall campaigns | Largest campaign |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 884 | 6 | 24V466, door handles: 8,204 vehicles |
| 2024 | none listed | 4 | 24V466, door handles: 8,204 vehicles |
The 2024 has had less time to collect complaints, so an empty row is not a clean bill of health. The four campaigns that reach the 2024 also cover the 2023.
Fix it or sell it?
Run the Ocean's VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup. All six Ocean remedies were software updates or part replacements, so an unfinished recall may explain the symptom you have. Our open recall guide covers selling a car with recall work not done.
Then sort the problem:
- Limp mode or sudden power loss: compare the symptoms with recalls 24V404 and 24V499 before you assume the battery is gone.
- The car won't power up at all: see EV battery failed for how to weigh a high-voltage fault.
- Faults that come and go: our electrical problems guide helps you decide how far to chase them.
Get any repair quote in writing. When that quote nears the price of a working Ocean, selling it unrepaired wins.
Selling your Ocean whole
- Gather the details: the VIN, the mileage, the trim, and what the car does or won't do.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say where it sits and whether it will roll. An Ocean stuck in limp mode or a locked state may not move on its own, so tell us that up front. If a door handle sticks, say which doors open.
- Leave it complete. Keep the battery, motors and wheels on the car. Missing parts change the offer.
- Hand over every Ocean key card or fob along with the signed title, and show your photo ID to the driver. After you sell covers plates and insurance by state.

Questions people ask
- How many NHTSA complaints does the Fisker Ocean have?
- 884, tallied through October 10, 2026. Every one is filed under the 2023 model year. The top components named are the electrical system (256) and service brakes (241). The 2024 has had less time to collect complaints, and none are listed under it.
- Which recalls cover my Ocean?
- NHTSA lists six campaigns. Two cover only the 2023: motor and vehicle control software (24V404) and the instrument panel warning lights (24V405). Four cover 2023 and 2024: door handles (24V466), the cabin water pump (24V499), regenerative braking software (24V623) and a gear-selection fault that can let the car roll (24V865). Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Will you buy an Ocean that is stuck in limp mode or won't power up?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Tell us the car won't drive, whether the doors open, and where it is parked.
- Do I need to remove the Ocean's battery first?
- No. Sell the whole car as it sits. Leave the high-voltage battery, the motors and the wheels in place. If a part is already gone, mention it when you ask for an offer.
