Selling a junk or dead car in Fort Walton Beach
In Fort Walton Beach, a broken rental scooter gets two hours and a broken car gets 72. City code tells share-scooter companies to pull an unsafe device "within two (2) hours." For cars, Section 11.07 says no one may leave a vehicle "on any public right of way, public property, or public parking lot more than 72 hours." If your car has stopped moving for good, we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

The 72-hour rule
Section 11.07 adds the step that matters: "A vehicle may be posted abandoned and subject to towing if the vehicle is not moved within 72 hours of posting." So the clock can run twice, once before a car is posted and once after.
When police can tow
Under Section 11.04.04, police may have a car moved "to a local garage, lot, or other place of safety" when it is:
- left alone on a bridge where it blocks traffic
- so disabled on a roadway that it blocks traffic, with the driver unable to deal with it
- parked illegally so that it blocks traffic or a driveway
An unattended car parked against city rules may be removed "in addition to fines." The owner pays the towing, removal and storage bill "before the vehicle will be released."
Unpaid fines can lead to impound
Unpaid parking fines bring Section 11.04.05 into play. Police notify the registered or titled owner "by registered mail," and the owner "may request a hearing within ten (10) days of the date the notice was mailed." Silence for ten days lets police impound it. Towing, storage and the fines then "constitute a lien on the vehicle." The Code Enforcement Board can change the fines or give more time for good cause.
Every city section we found is about streets and public property; none addresses a dead car on private land. State law still reaches private land, and Fort Walton Beach may have rules beyond what we found.
The title office is close
Title work happens next door in Shalimar. The Okaloosa County office is in Suite 101 of 1250 N. Eglin Parkway, and the number is (850) 651-7300. As the crow flies, that is only about 3 miles northeast.
What Florida asks of a seller
Your signature on a Florida title goes unwitnessed, since FLHSMV wants no notary. Beside it you note the buyer, the mileage, what was paid and when. Your plate stays yours, so unscrew it before the car leaves. A Notice of Sale on HSMV 82050 is due within 30 days. It ends your liability and pulls your registration off the car.
Lost the title? Expect $75.25 for a duplicate; Fast Title is an extra $10.00. An untitled car under $1,000 in value and 10 or more model years old has another route: a derelict certificate, which lets a salvage dealer or scrap metal recycler with the proper state license or registration buy it. After that it is scrap only. More in junk car with no title, and in wrecked or totaled if it was in a crash.
