Selling a junk car in Natick
A dead car in a Natick driveway can still cost money every year. Every registered car in Natick owes motor vehicle excise, running or not, at $25 for each $1,000 of value. In Natick the bill keeps coming until you cancel the registration. If the car is finished, we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits.

The excise does not stop on its own
Natick, not the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV), assesses and bills the excise. Two details catch people out. A registration revoked over an insurance lapse still owes it until somebody cancels it. For a car registered only part of the year, the charge runs from the month it was registered to December.
So parking the car changes nothing. Cancelling does. Natick owners do it online through a MyMassGov account; hang on to the receipt, and photocopy it for the insurance company. After that, driving the car on any public way is off limits, so even a runner leaves Natick on a truck.
Paid for months you no longer owned it? Natick's board of assessors rules on abatements. Get the application in within 3 years of the bill's due date or 1 year of paying it, whichever lands later. Our car property tax guide has more.
Junk-car rules for Natick: state law
Natick's town code did not turn up online, so this section rests on state statute alone. A Natick bylaw on unregistered or broken-down cars may still exist, and it could be tighter.
In Natick, Chapter 90, section 22C reaches a seemingly abandoned car. A Natick officer may tow a car that sits over 72 hours on a road, or uninvited on private land, when disposal would cost more than its value. That targets cars dumped where they do not belong, not one in your own Natick driveway. For tows off private land, the RMV's automobile-law page points readers to local police, since each town writes its own bylaws.
Title steps when the paperwork is missing
With a clean title, a Natick sale is short: the RMV's private-sale page names no notary, you note the miles, and each side signs, hand-prints a name and writes the date in the title's transfer block.
Lost it? Replace it first. The replacement is $25. From Natick, request it on the web. Or mail the application to Boston's Title Division with a MassDOT check or money order. It can take 10 business days. A Natick title that still lists a loan you paid off needs a signed release from the lender, on its letterhead. The RMV turns away faxes and copies no matter how many years ago the loan closed. More in junk car with no title.
Plates stay in Natick with you
Once the registration is cancelled, recycle the plates or saw them in half. Nothing gets mailed back to the RMV. A replacement car can take over the plates inside 7 calendar days.
