Selling a junk or non-running Pontiac G3

Owners have filed 19 complaints with NHTSA about the Pontiac G3, and 18 of them are on the 2009. That is the count as of October 10, 2026. EPA lists the G3 for just two model years, 2009 and 2010, and Pontiac ended soon after.

A Pontiac badge on a GM Daewoo car

Wikipedia names GM Daewoo as the maker. It also says that in Mexico, the T250 Aveo sedan replaced the "GM Daewoo-built Pontiac G3" as a 2009 model. That followed GM's announcement that it would end Pontiac after the 2009 model year in Mexico and the 2010 model year elsewhere.

NHTSA's one G3 recall reads the same way. GM filed it for 2009-2010 Chevrolet Aveo and 2009 Pontiac G3 vehicles in one campaign.

EPA puts the G3 in both the compact and subcompact classes, all gasoline, under four names: G3 (3-Door), G3 (5-Door), G3 Wave and G3 Wave 5.

What owners reported on the 2009-2010 G3

There is one generation here, so the whole story fits in a short list. Across all 19 complaints, the components named most often are:

  • Engine: 4, the most of any component.
  • Service brakes: 3.
  • Power train: 3.
  • Vehicle speed control: 2.
  • Air bags: 2.

One complaint involved a crash and one a tow. No G3 complaint reports a fire, injury or death.

Recall 14V460: the ABS module

GM reported this campaign on July 29, 2014. The G3 listing covers the 2009 model year. NHTSA's summary says the brake fluid may not protect against corrosion of the valves inside the anti-lock brake module. The remedy was a new ABS module from the dealer, free of charge, unless the module had already been replaced under an earlier campaign.

The campaign count is 1,968 vehicles. That number covers the whole campaign, Aveos included, so it is not a count of G3s alone.

EPA has no 2008 G3, yet NHTSA logged one complaint against that year. No one has filed a complaint on the 2010 G3 so far, in part because it has had fewer years on the road.

Fix the G3 or let it go?

  1. ABS or brake light on? Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup first. If 14V460 shows as open, ask a Chevrolet or GM dealer about it before you pay for a brake repair. Our open recall guide covers selling with one still open.
  2. Engine trouble? Engine is the component owners named most. Get the shop's quote on paper and hold it up to what a running G3 with close mileage sells for. The blown engine guide walks through that call.
  3. Brakes seized or grinding after sitting? See bad brakes.

Our repairs cost more than it is worth guide walks through comparing a quote with the car's value.

Selling your G3 whole

  1. Write down the VIN, the miles, and which body it is: 3-door or 5-door.
  2. Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Let us know if the G3 still rolls and how close our truck can get to it.
  4. Keep the parts on it, from wheels to catalytic converter, and mention anything missing.
  5. Keep the G3's title and a driver's license or other photo ID handy for pickup. The plate rules depend on your state; after you sell explains them. No title? Start with selling with no title.

Questions people ask

How many NHTSA complaints does the Pontiac G3 have?
NHTSA's file held 19 owner complaints for the G3 on October 10, 2026. 18 are on the 2009 and one is filed under 2008. The 2010 has none. EPA data stops at the 2010 G3, and that last year has been driven for fewer years than older G3s, so it has drawn fewer complaints.
Is the Pontiac G3 related to the Chevrolet Aveo?
NHTSA's only G3 recall, 14V460, was filed for 2009-2010 Chevrolet Aveo and 2009 Pontiac G3 vehicles together. Wikipedia names GM Daewoo as the maker. When you look up parts or recall notices, search the Aveo too.
Will you buy a G3 that won't start or has an ABS light on?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us what's wrong, whether it rolls, and where it's parked.
