Selling a Porsche 918 Spyder that won't run
Not one owner complaint about the 918 Spyder sits in NHTSA's file, yet the car carries five recall campaigns. Three of them are about suspension control arms. If yours is parked with a fault, a dead battery or recall work still pending, you can sell the whole car as it sits.

What the recalls cover
The EPA lists one model year, 2015, as a two-seat plug-in hybrid. Wikipedia says production ran from September 2013 to June 2015 in Zuffenhausen. It pairs a 4.6-liter Porsche M18.00 V8 with a 6.8 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, drives all four wheels through a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox, and was the successor to the Carrera GT. Every recall below is on that single model year. Wikipedia counts "half a dozen different recalls"; NHTSA lists five for the US.
Suspension: three campaigns
- 14V457000 (July 28, 2014): rear-axle control arms on cars built May 7 to June 18, 2014. Dealers inspect and replace them as needed. 5 vehicles.
- 16V885000 (December 9, 2016): front lower control arms that may crack at the ball joint, on cars built November 6, 2013 to July 27, 2015. Dealers replace them. 306 vehicles.
- 18V287000 (May 3, 2018): the connecting shafts of the longitudinal and transverse rear control arms may fail from stress corrosion cracking. Dealers replace those arms. 305 vehicles.
Cooling fan wiring and seat belts
- 15V335000 (June 1, 2015): the wiring harness for the left rear radiator fan. NHTSA flags it PARK OUTSIDE. Dealers inspect the harness and clip it to a coolant tube. 223 vehicles.
- 16V520000 (July 8, 2016): incorrect screws may have been used on the front seat belt anchorage. Dealers inspect and replace the mount and reel bolts as needed. 306 vehicles.
Each remedy is listed as free of charge. Vehicle numbers are whole-campaign counts as NHTSA lists them; every notice describes 918 Spyder vehicles.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Zero is what NHTSA's owner-complaint file showed for the 918 on October 10, 2026. Each complaint is something an owner decided to file with NHTSA, not a reliability grade, and a younger car has had fewer years in which to draw them; the 918 has had more than ten.
| Model year | Owner complaints | Recall campaigns | Systems recalled |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2015 | 0 | 5 | Suspension (3), radiator fan wiring, seat belts |
Fix the faults or sell it?
Start with the five campaigns. Enter the VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup; any campaign still open is dealer work at no charge. If the fan wiring recall is open, park the car outside until it's done.
What's left after that is the real question. The hybrid side has a battery pack, and the gearbox is a dual-clutch unit, so a car that won't move may have a fault in either. Our guides on a failed hybrid battery and dual-clutch trouble explain how to weigh those. Get the diagnosis in writing before you decide.
How to sell the 918 whole
- Collect the paperwork: title, VIN, mileage, and any dealer or recall records.
- Request an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Describe where it sits: a garage, a storage unit, a dealer's lot. Say if it rolls in neutral and whether the battery has any charge, so the truck that meets the car can load it.
- Keep it complete. Leave the wheels and body panels on, and mention anything already removed.
We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Missing the title? Start with selling with no title. For other models, see every Porsche we cover.
