Selling a damaged Tesla Cybertruck
The 2024 Cybertruck holds 174 of the truck's 207 NHTSA complaints and appears in all 11 of its recall campaigns. That's as of October 10, 2026. The most-named parts on the 2024 were the electrical system (42) and the body structure (35).

A Cybertruck with a failed drive unit, a wreck behind it or loose panels can still come to us whole, just as it sits. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, pickups included, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
The truck in brief
Wikipedia says production began in November 2023 at Gigafactory Texas in Austin. The Cybertruck uses a 123 kWh battery and a single-speed fixed transmission, with one rear motor or two or three motors driving all four wheels. Tesla stopped taking reservations for the base rear-drive truck in August 2024 and dropped the Long Range trim in September 2025. EPA's fuel economy data lists 2025 and 2026 model years; NHTSA's complaint file also has 2024 trucks.
In its first year on sale, Wikipedia says, NHTSA counted 26 complaints, two investigations and seven recalls. In 2025 the IIHS gave a May 2025 build a "good" crashworthiness rating, with "acceptable" and "marginal" scores elsewhere.
Recalls, grouped by what they fix
There is only one generation so far, so the problems below are grouped by system rather than by years.
Body panels, trim and light bars
Structure is the second most-named component overall, with 39 complaints. Three recalls deal with parts coming loose:
- 24V457000: the trunk bed trim sail applique on certain 2024 trucks may not be stuck on properly. Tesla Service adds adhesion promoter and tape, or replaces the piece, free. 12,150 trucks.
- 25V170000: the light bar on 2024-2025 trucks can delaminate and come off. Tesla Service replaces the cant rail assembly, free. 46,096 trucks.
- 25V735000: the off-road light bar accessory that Tesla Service installed on some 2024 trucks may have been attached with the wrong primer. 6,197 trucks.
Drive power, pedal and brakes
The electrical system leads all complaints, with 49. Recall 24V832000 says a fault in the drive inverter on certain 2024 trucks can cut drive power to the wheels; Tesla Service replaces the inverter, free, on 2,431 trucks. Recall 24V276000 covered 3,878 trucks whose accelerator pedal pad could come loose and get trapped by interior trim. The smallest campaign, 26V255000, covers 173 trucks with 18-inch steel wheels: the brake rotor stud holes can crack, and Tesla Service replaces the rotors.
Visibility and lights
The front wiper motor controller on some 2024 trucks can fail from excess current (24V456000, 11,688 trucks; Tesla replaces the motor). The rearview camera image could lag after shifting into reverse (24V718000, 27,185 trucks, fixed by an over-the-air update). Software before 2025.38.3 could make the front parking lights too bright on 2024-2026 trucks (25V699000, 63,619 trucks).
Shared with other Teslas
Two campaigns are fleet-wide. The instrument panel font recall, 24V051000, lists 2,193,869 vehicles across the Model S, X, 3, Y and 2024 Cybertruck. The tire pressure warning recall, 24V935000, lists 696,281 vehicles, most of them Model 3s and Model Ys.
Cybertruck complaints by model year
Drawn from NHTSA's October 10, 2026 complaint download. Owners file these and NHTSA has not ruled on them. The 2025 and 2026 trucks are young, so expect their counts to rise. Campaigns that cover several years count in each row.
| Model year | Complaints | Reporting a crash | Reporting a fire | Recall campaigns | Most-named component |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 174 | 23 | 2 | 11 | Electrical system (42) |
| 2025 | 24 | 2 | 0 | 3 | Electrical system (6) |
| 2026 | 9 | 2 | 0 | 2 | Unknown or other (2) |
Repair it or sell it?
Start with recalls: several of the fixes above are free shop work. Run your VIN at NHTSA's lookup, or read open recall if you'd rather sell first. For a dented stainless Cybertruck, have a shop write up the repair cost and compare it with the going price of an undamaged truck from that same year. If an insurer totals it, see insurer totaled it.
Selling a Cybertruck whole
- Note the VIN, mileage and condition: does it power on, does it roll, are any panels or the light bar off?
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Tell us where the Cybertruck is and whether there's room to back up to it. Our tow truck loads it on the spot, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.
- Leave it whole, including wheels, light bar and body panels. Mention anything already removed.
- Clear your data from the screen; see wipe your data. Then hand over the title and keys. More on trucks: junk truck or SUV.

Questions people ask
- How many recalls does the Cybertruck have?
- NHTSA lists 11 recall campaigns, and every one includes the 2024 model year. Two of them, the instrument panel font and the tire pressure warning, also cover other Tesla models, so their vehicle counts are not Cybertruck counts.
- Why does the 2025 Cybertruck have so few complaints?
- Mostly age. On NHTSA's October 10, 2026 file the 2025 shows 24 complaints and the 2026 shows 9, against 174 for the 2024. Those trucks have simply been driven for a shorter stretch.
- Will you buy a Cybertruck with a dead drive inverter or body damage?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, trucks included, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Send us a note about your Cybertruck, including where it is parked right now.
