Selling a junk car in Rock Springs
Rock Springs times a dead car in the front yard in hours. Under Section 50.12 of the city code, "a disabled vehicle or vehicle under repair that remains in a residential front yard for more than 100 hours shall be deemed a nuisance." That is a little over four days. If the repair is not coming, we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, and free pickup anywhere in the US reaches Sweetwater County.

One car out back, screened
The same section allows a single exception. "One unlicensed and/or inoperative vehicle, unlicensed and/or inoperative recreational vehicle or stock car is permitted on a property." Its place is the side or rear yard, and it must be "properly screened from public view with an opaque fence or car cover." People in trailer parks, apartments and developments can use an approved storage yard there, screened the same way and allowed by zoning.
Home parking has rules too. Section 157.133 says off-street parking that goes with a home is for "licensed and operable passenger automobiles," and a home's required parking spaces cannot hold a dead car unless the owner has a conditional use permit.
How the notice works
Section 50.12 lays out the steps. A written notice names the nuisance and gives "up to 14 days" to fix it. If it is still there, a notice is posted on the property allowing "an additional three days." After that, the city "shall have the authority to enter upon the property" and remove the nuisance itself, charging the cost to the owner, tenant or manager. If you already have the letter, see notice to remove a car.
The title office is in Green River
Sweetwater County's seat is Green River, not Rock Springs, and Wyoming processes titles at the county clerk in the seat. The office we checked is at 80 W. Flaming Gorge Way, Suite 150, Green River, phone (307) 872-3732, roughly 14 miles west of Rock Springs as the crow flies. Registration and plates go through the county treasurer. WYDOT is the state agency over all of it.
Wyoming rules for the sale
You sign the Wyoming title while a notary watches. If the names are linked by or/and, every co-owner repeats that step. List any liens. An odometer statement goes with any vehicle made in the past 10 years. Keep the plates: they were sold to you, and you can put them and any remaining credit on your next vehicle. Lost the title? One owner on its face can apply for a duplicate with an affidavit of loss (junk car with no title).

Getting an offer
Fill in the form or call (877) 421-6008. Tell us the kind of car, its mileage, if it will start, and which papers you hold. Tell us if the 100-hour count or a posted notice has started; pickup works from a front yard, behind a fence, or a trailer-park storage yard.
Questions people ask
- What is the front-yard limit for a disabled car in Rock Springs?
- 100 hours. Section 50.12 makes a disabled vehicle, or one under repair, a nuisance once it has stayed in a residential front yard longer than that.
- In Rock Springs, may a dead car take up the parking space my home is required to have?
- Not in a required parking space without a permit. Rock Springs Section 157.133 bars parking a car that doesn't work in a required off-street space, except with a conditional use permit. Home parking is for licensed cars that run.
- Do I have to drive to Green River for a title?
- The Sweetwater County Clerk office we checked is in Green River, about 14 miles west of Rock Springs as the crow flies, because Wyoming handles titles in the county seat. The county may have other offices.
