Selling a dead or junk Acura TLX

Of the 939 TLX complaints in NHTSA's file, 343 belong to the 2015, the car's first model year, and 118 of those point at the power train. Two of its six recall campaigns are transmission recalls that cover only 2015 TLXs.

Acura ended the TLX with the 2025 model year, so every one on the road is now a used car. If yours has a dead engine or a transmission that won't behave, sell the whole car as it sits. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

TLX problems by generation

Each figure is an owner complaint from NHTSA's database, tallied October 10, 2026. A complaint tells you what one driver reported; it is no quality grade. The second-generation cars are younger, so their totals have had fewer years to grow. Generation and engine details come from Wikipedia's TLX article.

First generation, 2015-2020

Built in Marysville, Ohio, and related to the ninth-generation Accord. The base car had a 2.4-liter four with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 3.5-liter V6 was the other choice. These six years hold 775 complaints.

The 2015 transmission. The power train is the 2015's top component. Recall 14V779 had dealers inspect 9,392 2015 TLX V6s, front-drive and SH-AWD, and replace the transmission if needed. Recall 16V640 covers 8,354 2015 TLXs whose transmission wire harness connections may have weak crimps; dealers update the transmission software. Both campaigns are TLX-only. If your 2.4-liter car's dual-clutch is the problem, our dual-clutch guide covers it.

The V6 engine. From 2016 to 2020, the engine is the component named most every year. Three engine and fuel recalls reach these cars, and each one also covers other Honda and Acura models:

  • 23V751, 2015-2020: a connecting rod manufacturing problem. Dealers inspect and repair the engine, or replace it. 248,999 vehicles, including the MDX, Pilot, Ridgeline and Odyssey.
  • 19V298, 2019: timing belt teeth may separate from the belt. Dealers replace affected belts. 93,946 vehicles.
  • 19V060, 2015-2019 V6: particulates in fuel can stick inside the fuel pump. 437,032 vehicles, including the MDX and Accord.

Fuel pump recalls 21V215 and 23V858 also cover 2019-2020 and 2015-2020 TLXs.

Second generation, 2021-2025

A 2.0-liter turbo four (272 hp) or, in the Type S, a 3.0-liter turbo V6 (355 hp), both with a 10-speed automatic. Wikipedia notes the 2021 TLX was an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. These five years hold 164 complaints. The 2021 has 102 of them, and 54 of those name the power train.

The recalls here are smaller and more specific:

  • 24V950, 2021-2023 TLX only: the fuel filler neck and tank may have been welded badly and leak. 167 vehicles.
  • 25V031, 2021-2025 TLX Type-S: a fuel injection software error. 294,612 vehicles, including the MDX Type-S and Pilot.
  • 25V391, 2021-2025: a brake pedal pivot pin that may not be secured. 259,033 vehicles, with the MDX and Pilot.
  • 22V950, 19 2022 TLXs with tires that may have been cut during sorting.

Each recall campaign is counted under every year it covers, so the last column does not add to 14.

Repair or sell?

  1. Search your VIN on NHTSA's recall page. A 2015-2020 TLX with engine trouble should go to an Acura dealer about recall 23V751 before anyone quotes an engine.
  2. No open recall, engine gone? Read blown engine and get a written quote.
  3. Compare that quote with what a running TLX of your year and trim sells for.

Selling the TLX whole

  1. Pull together the VIN, miles and symptoms. Note which engine (2.4, V6, 2.0 turbo or Type S) and front-drive or SH-AWD.
  2. Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Tell us where your TLX sits and if its wheels still roll. Free pickup anywhere in the US.
  4. Leave everything on, from the wheels to the converter. If parts are already gone, say so; it changes the offer.
  5. Title and ID go to the driver when the truck arrives. If the loan isn't paid off, see still owe on the loan.

Older Acura sedans: the TL and TSX, which the TLX replaced. Every model is on the Acura page.

Questions people ask

Which TLX model years have the most NHTSA complaints?
The 2015, at 343 as of October 10, 2026, is far ahead. The 2016 (111), 2021 (102), 2018 (95) and 2019 (92) trail it. The 2024 and 2025, with 5 and 4, have barely been driven long enough to mean much.
Is there a recall on the TLX engine?
Recall 23V751 covers 2015-2020 TLXs for a connecting rod manufacturing problem. Dealers inspect and repair the engine, or replace it, as needed. Its 248,999 vehicles also include the MDX, Pilot, Ridgeline and Odyssey. The 2019 also has recall 19V298 for timing belt teeth that may separate. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Will you buy a TLX that won't shift or won't start?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. You sell the whole car as it sits.
