Selling a dead or junk Acura TSX
Steering is the component owners name most in TSX complaints to NHTSA, 191 of 685, and nearly half of those sit on one model year: 95 on the 2012. None of the TSX's 12 recalls covers steering on the second-generation car.

TSX complaints and recalls by year
TSX figures are owner reports we pulled from NHTSA on October 10, 2026. Think of each as a driver's account rather than any kind of score. A 2014 TSX has been on the road over a decade, but a 2004 has had ten more years than that to draw reports. Recalls are counted under each year they reach.
| Year | Complaints | Crashes | Recall campaigns | Named most |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2004 | 142 | 9 | 3 | Air bags (27) |
| 2005 | 51 | 5 | 3 | Air bags (15) |
| 2006 | 50 | 4 | 3 | Steering (20) |
| 2007 | 22 | 1 | 2 | Steering (14) |
| 2008 | 34 | 3 | 2 | Steering (15) |
| 2009 | 91 | 7 | 6 | Air bags (26) |
| 2010 | 63 | 7 | 7 | Air bags (20) |
| 2011 | 47 | 3 | 7 | Steering (15) |
| 2012 | 145 | 4 | 6 | Steering (95) |
| 2013 | 33 | 2 | 4 | Steering (16) |
| 2014 | 7 | 0 | 3 | Service brakes (3) |
In all, 45 complaints report a crash, 5 a fire, 31 an injury and 2 a death, one on a 2009 and one on a 2012.
First generation, 2004-2008
Wikipedia says the first TSX was built in Sayama, Japan, with a 2.4-liter four (200-205 hp) and a 5-speed automatic. In North America it took the place of the Integra sedan. These five years hold 299 complaints.
The 2004 is the busy one, with 142. Air bags lead (27), then seats (22) and the electrical system (18). Recall 04V429 covers a trunk hinge wire harness on the 2004 that can be damaged as the trunk opens and closes; the campaign counts 40,060 passenger cars.
From 2006 to 2008, steering takes over as the top complaint. That lines up with recall 10V174, a TSX-only campaign for 167,255 cars from 2004 to 2008: long periods of high under-hood heat can wear out the power steering hose.
One more TSX-only campaign covers cars from certain states. Under Recall 13V093 are 76,253 TSXs from 2004 to 2008 that were sold or registered in places like Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota. Dealers inspect the engine control unit and replace it if it is damaged. The 2005 also has recall 07V097, a fuel pump relay wire that can break and stop the engine from starting.
Second generation, 2009-2014
The second TSX had a 2.4-liter four (201 hp), with a 3.5-liter V6 (280 hp) added for 2010-2014, and a Sport Wagon from 2011. It is related to the North American Accord. These six years hold 386 complaints.
Air bags lead on the 2009 and 2010. Seven of the 12 TSX campaigns swap out the front passenger inflator or module on these years, from 16V346 (2009-2011) to 19V502 (2009-2014). Each campaign also covers other Honda models, so its vehicle total is not the TSX's.
Steering leads on the 2011, 2012 and 2013. The 2012's 95 steering complaints are the largest single cluster in the TSX file, and no recall on these years addresses steering.
Wikipedia adds that the IIHS gave the second-generation TSX good scores in all 14 measured categories of its front and side tests. Acura replaced the TSX and the TL with the TLX after 2014.
Is the TSX worth fixing?
Check the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup first. On a 2009-2014, confirm the passenger inflator work was done. Bags that deployed in a wreck are their own topic: see airbags deployed. No recall covers steering trouble on a 2011-2013. A first-generation car sold or registered in a state recall 13V093 lists may also have the ECU recall open. Then compare the written quote with what a running TSX of your year brings. Even the newest TSX is now twelve model years old; our old or high-mileage guide covers selling one that age.
