2013-2015: three powertrains and the early recalls
The ILX was a compact luxury sedan related to the Honda Civic. Wikipedia lists three early versions: a 2.0-liter four (R20A) with a 5-speed automatic, a 2.4-liter four (K24Z7) with a 6-speed manual, and a 1.5-liter hybrid with a CVT and a lithium-ion battery. The hybrid was dropped in July 2014 for the 2015 model year because of slow sales.
Air bags top the list on all three early years, which together hold 115 complaints: 25 of 66 on the 2013, 19 of 30 on the 2014 and 12 of 19 on the 2015. Three driver air bag inflator campaigns cover early cars: 16V061 and 19V182 (2013-2016) and 19V500 (2013). Each spans many Honda and Acura models.
Other early recalls:
- Front door latch, 2013 (12V338). Locking the doors while someone pulls the inside handle could disturb the latch cable. The campaign also covers the 2012 Honda CR-V.
- Headlights, 2013-2014 (14V323). Dealers replace the headlights.
- Drive shafts, 2013-2015 (20V770). Dealers inspect them and replace the left or right shaft if needed. The 248,358 vehicles in that campaign include Honda Civic Hybrids and Fits.
2016-2022: the 2.4 and the 8-speed dual-clutch
The facelift dropped the manual and the 2.0. From 2016 every ILX used a 2.4-liter four (K24V7) with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, and production moved to Honda's Marysville, Ohio plant in January 2015. Acura ended the ILX in February 2022 and replaced it with the Integra.
These seven years hold 155 complaints. The mix changes from air bags to the fuel system and brakes. The 2018 names the fuel or propulsion system in 10 of 23 complaints; the 2019 names the gasoline fuel system in 13 of 36 and service brakes in 9. The recall list tracks that shift:
- Fuel tank, 2014-2019 (19V052). A deformed tank can lift the fuel pump and let the level float stick. The recall summary names only the ILX.
- Fuel pump, 2019 (21V215) and 2016-2020 (23V858). Dealers replace the pump or pump module. Both campaigns cover many Honda and Acura models; 23V858 alone counts 2,490,460 vehicles.
- Driveshaft set-ring, 2016-2019 (19V424). Too much grease can keep the set-ring from seating, so the driveshaft can separate from the half shaft.
- Brake master cylinder, 2016-2020 (25V859). The internal leak can reduce braking. Dealers replace the master cylinder.
ILX numbers by model year
NHTSA complaint counts pulled October 10, 2026. The 2020-2022 cars have spent the fewest years on the road, which keeps their numbers down.

Is it worth fixing?
An ILX is young enough that the answer often starts with a recall. Run the VIN at NHTSA's lookup and book any open campaign with an Acura dealer; a car with a soft brake pedal or a fuel gauge that won't move may already be covered. Our open recall guide explains what an open campaign means for a sale.
When no coverage applies, get the ILX repair quoted on paper, then check what running ILX sedans with close mileage are listed for. For brake trouble outside the recall, bad brakes lays out the choice.
Selling your ILX as it sits
- Write down your ILX's VIN, its mileage and what's going wrong.
- Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Share the location and whether it can be pushed. A dealer lot or a shop is fine; mention it.
- Leave the car whole. If a loan is still open on it, read still owe on the loan first.
- When your ILX leaves: hand the driver its signed title and keys.
The Integra took the ILX's place in 2022. See every Acura we cover for the rest of the lineup.
Questions people ask
- What is the newest recall on the Acura ILX?
- Recall 25V859, filed December 11, 2025, for 2016-2020 ILX sedans. Contaminated brake fluid can deform a seal inside the brake master cylinder and cause an internal leak. Dealers replace the master cylinder for free, and owner letters went out May 4, 2026.
- Which ILX year has the most complaints?
- The 2013, with 66 of 270 as of October 10, 2026, and 25 of those name air bags. Younger ILX years have spent fewer years in owners' hands, which holds their totals down.
- My ILX shows a wrong fuel reading or stalls. Is there a recall?
- Several cover the fuel system. 19V052 checks for a deformed fuel tank on 2014-2019 cars that can make the fuel level float stick. 21V215 (2019) and 23V858 (2016-2020) replace the fuel pump. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Will you buy an ILX with a recall still open?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. It's still worth knowing what is open, since the dealer repair is free.
