Two different vehicles under one name
2010-2013. The first ZDX was shown on April 8, 2009, in New York, as a 2010 model. It was the first vehicle designed entirely at Acura's studio in Torrance, California. It was built in Alliston, Ontario, with a 3.7-liter J37A5 V6 and a 6-speed automatic, and it is related to the MDX. Honda dropped it after the 2013 model year because of poor sales.
2024. The second ZDX was co-developed with General Motors on GM's BEV3 platform, alongside the Cadillac Lyriq, Honda Prologue and Chevrolet Blazer EV. It uses a 102 kWh Ultium battery, driving the rear wheels with a single motor, or all four with a pair. GM built it in Spring Hill, Tennessee, from March 2024 to September 2025, and Acura announced that month it was ending the model.
2010-2013: a run of air bag recalls
The early ZDX has few complaints: 9 on the 2010, 2 on the 2011 and 1 on the 2012. Air bags account for 6 of the 2010's nine.
The recall list is longer. NHTSA counts 10 campaigns on the 2010 and 8 each on the 2011 and 2012, and all of them involve air bags. Recall 10V145 covered 2010 ZDXs built between November 12, 2009 and March 22, 2010, for a problem with how the dashboard covering material was made; the dealer checks that covering and swaps it where required. The other nine replace or inspect driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators. Those campaigns span many Honda and Acura models (16V061 alone lists 2,232,187 vehicles), so their vehicle counts are not ZDX numbers. Five of them also reach 2013 models.
2024: brakes, camera and screen
Service brakes (15 complaints) and forward collision avoidance (12) top the 2024's complaints. It is also the newest year, so it has had the least time to collect them.
Five recalls cover it:
- 24V614: on all-wheel-drive models, the ABS can switch on without warning and let go of brake pressure. Acura's remedy is new software for the electronic brake control module, sent over the air or loaded by a dealer. 4,174 vehicles.
- 25V018 and 25V234: front passenger stabilizer bar bracket bolts can loosen and detach, which can damage high-voltage cables or EV battery coolant lines. 118 and 9 vehicles.
- 26V112: a software error can blank the instrument panel display. The campaign covers 65,135 ZDX and Prologue vehicles.
- 26V306: the rearview camera may show a distorted or blank image. Of the campaign's 59,887 vehicles, Wikipedia counts 15,688 ZDXs and 44,199 Prologues.
ZDX complaints and recalls by model year
ZDX figures below come from the NHTSA owner file as it stood October 10, 2026. One campaign may span several years and models.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes | Injured | Recall campaigns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2010 | 9 | 1 | 2 | 10 |
| 2011 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 8 |
| 2012 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 8 |
| 2013, 2025-2026 | none on file | - | - | - |
| 2024 | 57 | 4 | 3 | 5 |
No deaths or fires are recorded, and 2 complaints say the vehicle was towed.
Repair or sell?
Owners of a 2010-2013 should first run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup, since open air bag recalls are fixed free. A dead V6 or automatic on a car this age is a different question; weigh the quote against what a running one brings, using repairs that cost more than it's worth.
On a 2024, open recalls are free at a dealer too. If a loose stabilizer bracket damaged battery parts, read EV battery failed. If the insurer totaled it, see totaled car.
