Selling a dead or junk Acura RDX
More than a quarter of all RDX complaints filed with NHTSA are about exterior lighting: 587 of 2,165. All but one of them come from three model years, 2013 to 2015, and none of the RDX's 16 recalls covers lighting.

That is one pattern. The 2019 and 2020, the two busiest years, have a different one. Whichever year you have, if it is done, you can sell the whole car as it sits. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
Complaints and recalls, year by year
Each RDX number is an owner report NHTSA held on October 10, 2026. Treat them as what RDX drivers decided to file, not a quality grade; the newest RDXs just haven't been driven long enough to gather many. Each recall shows under all the years it reaches.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes | Recall campaigns | Most-named component |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2007 | 53 | 7 | 2 | Air bags (22) |
| 2008 | 33 | 1 | 3 | Air bags (20) |

What owners reported, by generation
Generation years, engines and plants are from Wikipedia's RDX article.
2007-2012: the turbo four
The first RDX was built in Marysville, Ohio, with a 2.3-liter turbo four, a 5-speed automatic and optional SH-AWD. It is the quietest generation, with 154 complaints. Air bags are named most on all six years. Some 2007 to 2016 RDXs fall under two driver air bag inflator recalls, 16V061 and 19V182; the 2,232,187 vehicles in the first span Honda and Acura models, not just the RDX.
If your first-generation RDX has lost boost or sounds like the turbo is gone, see our turbo failure guide.
2013-2018: a V6, and the lighting years
For the second generation, Wikipedia's Acura article says Acura dropped the turbo four for a 3.5-liter V6. It used a 6-speed automatic and was built in East Liberty, Ohio. These six years hold 1,014 complaints, and the 2013-2015 carry most of them: 818. Exterior lighting is the top component on all three, reaching 335 of 413 on the 2015.
The recall list does not follow those complaints. The 2013 has recall 13V143: in sub-freezing temperatures, the brake-shift interlock can slow down and let the gear selector move. Its 204,169 vehicles include the CR-V and Odyssey. The 2018's top complaint is the gasoline fuel system, and fuel pump recall 23V858 covers RDXs from 2014 to 2020.
2019-2026: a 2.0 turbo and a 10-speed
The third RDX had a 2.0-liter turbo four and a 10-speed automatic. Wikipedia says the last one was built at East Liberty on May 5, 2026, and a hybrid fourth generation is expected for the 2028 model year. The generation holds 997 complaints. The 2019 has 438, more than any RDX year, and the 2020 has 347. The largest group on both is unknown or other, then visibility and wipers (166 between the two years), then the engine (70 and 48).
This generation has the longest recall list:
- Fuel pumps: 20V314 (2019), 21V215 (2019-2020) and 23V858. Each is a multi-model Honda campaign.
- 23V158: front seat belt buckles on 2019-2020, in a campaign of 448,613 that includes the CR-V, Accord and Odyssey.
- 21V939: a front driveshaft that may have been heat-treated wrong, 2021 RDX and 2022 CR-V Hybrid, 279 vehicles.
- 24V114: a steering gear box that may not have been tightened, letting water in, on the 2024 RDX and 2023-2024 Odyssey.
- 25V582: power steering software on the 2025 RDX alone, 17,330 vehicles. On that year, 15 of 30 complaints name steering.
- 26V332: front passenger seat weight sensors, 2019-2024, in a campaign that also covers the TLX, MDX, Pilot and others.
Fix the RDX, or sell it?
First stop: NHTSA's recall lookup, using your VIN. On a 2019-2020, ask an Acura dealer about the fuel pump and seat belt campaigns before paying for a diagnosis. No recall covers lighting trouble on a 2013-2015; our electrical problems guide helps you judge how deep it goes. Then hold the written quote up against what a running RDX of your year brings; if the repair swallows most of it, selling whole wins.
Selling your RDX whole
- Write down the VIN, the miles, the symptoms, and front-drive or SH-AWD.
- Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say whether your RDX rolls and where it's parked. Free pickup anywhere in the US.
- Keep the RDX's wheels, catalytic converter and other parts on it, and mention any piece that's already been pulled.
- The driver will want the title and your ID. After you sell covers plates and insurance.

Questions people ask
- Which RDX model years have the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2019 has 438 on our October 10, 2026 count. The 2015 (413), 2020 (347), 2014 (243) and 2013 (162) follow. Part of why 2022-and-later RDXs look so quiet is simply that they're young.
- Is there a recall for the 2013-2015 RDX lighting complaints?
- Not among the RDX's 16 recall campaigns. None of them covers exterior lighting, even though 586 of the 587 lighting complaints are on the 2013, 2014 and 2015.
- My 2025 RDX steering went into a failsafe mode. Is that a recall?
- Recall 25V582 covers certain 2025 RDXs whose electric power steering software may not be calibrated properly, which can put the system into a failsafe mode. Dealers reprogram the software. NHTSA's lookup will tell you whether your VIN is on the list.
- Will you buy an RDX that doesn't run?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. You sell the whole car as it sits.
