Got a dead car in Cabot?
Cabot tags a dead car before it tows it. A Notice of Violation has to stay on the car "for a period of no less than three days" when it sits near a public street, and "no less than thirty days" when it sits away from one. Don't want to wait for the tag to run out? We buy whole non-running and junk cars, so you sell the whole car as it sits.

What Cabot's code says about the car
The exterior property rules say "no inoperative or unlicensed motor vehicle shall be parked, kept or stored on any premises." A car may not sit in "a state of major disassembly, disrepair, or in the process of being stripped or dismantled" either. Big repairs, body work too, may only be done in a building or enclosed area set up for that work.
The nuisance section adds where such a car can legally stay: "in an approved storage area on property that is properly zoned and permitted for that purpose." Anywhere else, it "is declared to be a nuisance" and can be cited under subsection 3.2.8.
Three days or thirty
A Notice of Violation must be posted on the car for a fixed period before the Mayor or a designee may order it towed:
- Three days if it is parked or stored near a public street.
- Thirty days if it sits away from the street.
Other nuisance conditions run on a separate seven-day written notice. Day one is "the day after written notice is given," every calendar day counts, and the deadline is one minute before midnight on the seventh day. If the owner does nothing, the city may correct the condition itself. For a nuisance structure or piece of equipment, the code official posts a placard bearing the word "NUISANCE" along with the penalties for removing it.
The 30-day junkyard line
Cabot's zoning definitions carry a rule worth knowing. The code counts "Any premises on which there remains outside more than thirty days an inoperable, partially dismantled wrecked, or junked automobile" as a junk or salvage yard. A repair business is exempt only "so long as no inoperable junk or wrecked automobile remains outside more than thirty days."
Truck and two-hour parking
Some entries in the city's parking schedule allow two hours between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., except Sundays and holidays. Breaking the schedule is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine. Trucks of 1.5 tons or more may not park overnight on any street, or sit unattended with the motor off for more than two hours. A dead heavy truck cannot simply be left on a Cabot street.
Selling it under Arkansas law
The Arkansas DFA Office of Motor Vehicle runs titles through its State Revenue Offices, not the Lonoke County courthouse. You endorse the title over to the buyer and deliver it. In Cabot, Form 10-313 records the sale: VIN, buyer, date, description, odometer reading, full sales price, and both signatures. The form has no spot for a notary. DFA's list of registration documents has no inspection certificate, and no emissions or safety inspection program was found.
Keep your plates. You can move them to your next car for $1.00, plus any extra for a heavier weight class. You may file the free, optional Notice of Transfer of Ownership, and under Ark. Code 27-14-911 a real sale and delivery means you are not liable for the buyer's later negligent driving. After that, the buyer must register it within 60 days. After you sell covers the rest.

Getting an offer
Tell us the date the tag went on the car, so we know whether a three-day or a thirty-day clock is running. (877) 421-6008 reaches us, or the offer box takes the car's details and condition. We send a tow truck to the car, in a yard or a repair bay.
Questions people ask
- How long does a Cabot tag stay on a dead car before removal?
- At least three days if the car sits near a public street, and at least thirty days if it sits away from the streets. Only then may the Mayor or a designee have it removed.
- Can a dead car turn my Cabot lot into a junkyard under the code?
- On paper, yes. Cabot's zoning definitions say any premises with an inoperable, partly dismantled, wrecked or junked car left outside more than thirty days is deemed a junk or salvage yard for the purpose of the code.
- Does Arkansas require an inspection before I sell?
- No emissions or safety inspection program was found. The DFA's list of registration documents includes no inspection certificate.
- Am I liable if the buyer crashes the car later?
- Under Ark. Code 27-14-911, once you truly sell the car and hand it off, you are not responsible if the buyer later drives carelessly. The optional Notice of Transfer of Ownership records the sale and costs nothing.
