Selling a dead or junk Audi A7
The 2021 Audi A7 shows up in 13 recall campaigns, more than any other A7 year, against just 15 owner complaints at NHTSA. Across the whole car, the gap is the same shape: 30 recall campaigns on the A7, S7 and RS 7 and 212 complaints on the 2012-2021 cars, by NHTSA's October 10, 2026 count, and the A6 shares many of those campaigns.

First generation (4G8): the 2012-2018 cars
Audi built the first A7 from 2010 to 2018 at Neckarsulm, Wikipedia says. North American cars got an 8-speed ZF automatic. The S7 used a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 rated at 420 PS with a 7-speed S tronic and quattro. These seven model years hold 149 of the 212 complaints. Engine leads on the 2013, 2014 and 2016; air bags lead on the 2012.
Fuel leaks
Four campaigns deal with fuel escaping somewhere under the hood, and each covers other Audis too:
- 15V019 (2012-2013): fuel rails and seals replaced. 26,008 vehicles, including S4, S5, Q7, A6 and Touareg Hybrid models.
- 16V646 (2012-2013): a fuel hose in the engine bay can degrade and leak; dealers replace the under-hood fuel pump and hose. 28,249 A6 and A7 cars.
- 17V781 (2012-2014): the fuel line has a compression point that can weaken and leak. 48,693 A6 and A7 cars.
- 19V035 (2016-2018): left and right fuel rails may leak. 74,881 vehicles, with Q7, A6 and A8 models.
Air bag sensors and curtains
Campaigns 15V823 and 18V370 add a repair kit to the passenger occupant detection system on A6 and A7 sedans; the second one runs from 2012 to 2018 and counts 139,249 vehicles, S6, S7 and RS7 included. Campaign 17V293 is A7-only: head curtain air bags on 17,694 cars from 2015-2017 may not deploy properly in a crash. The 2016 has 8 air bag complaints.
Turbos on the S7 and RS7
Campaign 22V178 names the 2013-2017 S7 and 2014-2017 RS7, not the plain A7. When the strainer on the turbo's oil feed clogs, bearing wear follows; the fix is a fresh strainer and an oil change. Its 26,093 vehicles include A8, S6 and S8 cars.
Second generation (4K8): model years 2019-2025
The second A7 began production in February 2018, again at Neckarsulm. Wikipedia lists a 2.0-liter turbo four, a 3.0-liter turbo V6 with mild hybrid help, and 50 and 55 TFSI e plug-in hybrids. The 2019-2021 years hold 63 complaints; the 2019 has 43, and 18 of those name the electrical system. NHTSA's file has no complaints on the 2022 or later A7, which have had less time to collect them.
Recalls on these cars:
- 22V155 (2019-2022): the fuel level sender may stick and show the wrong level. 47,238 vehicles.
- 22V861 (2019-2022): liquid spilled in the rear seat may seep in where it shouldn't; dealers fit a protective cover. 50,883 vehicles.
- 25V080 (2022 plug-in hybrid): the high-voltage battery may overheat. Dealers install diagnostic software. The campaign's 20,201 vehicles also include 2021-2024 Audi Q5s.
- 23V842 (2021-2022): Audi says to set aside the 220V/240V portable charger and use other ways to charge. 93,196 vehicles across many plug-in and electric Audis.

Is the repair worth it?
Hold the written estimate up against a running A7's price for the same year. With this much shared hardware, recall work may already cover part of the problem, so check that first.
- Look up your VIN at NHTSA. On a 2012-2018 car with a fuel smell, the fuel recalls above are the place to start.
