Selling a Cadillac CT4 that's damaged or won't run

The CT4 in one generation
Per Wikipedia, US cars came from Lansing Grand River Assembly starting in 2020. The platform is GM's Alpha 2, and the ATS was its predecessor. For the US, Cadillac fitted either a 2.0-liter or a 2.7-liter turbocharged four. The CT4-V Blackwing has a 6-speed manual. Trims follow Cadillac's Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport layout.
2020-2021: four recalls each year
The 2020 has 8 complaints (engine 3, brakes 2) and the 2021 has 7 (engine 2, fuel and propulsion 2). These two years carry most of the recall work:
- 25V148, the 10-speed: the transmission can be damaged internally on certain 2020-2021 CT4s with that gearbox. Dealers install monitoring software. The 90,081 vehicles in the campaign include the CT5, 2019-2020 CT6 and Camaro.
- 21V611, curtain air bags: the roof rail air bags may not have been installed correctly on 2020-2022 CT4 and CT5 sedans. Dealers inspect both sides. 34,157 vehicles.
- 20V588, brake boost: contamination at a sensor connection in the electronic brake boost module; the fix is a new module. Its 3,677 vehicles span the Corvette, CT5, XT4, Trailblazer and Encore GX as well.
- 21V421, gateway module (2021): software tied to the air bag warning lamp, pushed over the air or loaded at a dealer. 285,622 vehicles across many GM models.
2022-2023: lighting software
Recall 22V903 updates body control module software for lighting on 2020-2023 CT4s. Its 740,108 vehicles are mostly trucks and SUVs, from Silverado to Yukon. The 2022 has 6 complaints, including the only injury on file, and the 2023 has 3.
2024-2026: no recalls yet
The 2024 has 7 complaints, with wipers and visibility named in 2. The 2025 has 2 and the 2026 has 1.

On a 2020 or 2021 with shifting trouble, ask a dealer whether 25V148 was done before paying for anything else. Look up the VIN at NHTSA. For a gearbox that's gone, read bad transmission. After a crash, set the body shop's estimate against the car's value; wrecked or totaled covers that. If you still owe on it, see still owe on the loan.
