The 2026 Sierra EV has 4 recall campaigns and 5 owner complaints on file with NHTSA. One of those recalls, 26V494, has dealers replace the high-voltage battery free, but its campaign lists only 11 vehicles, so check your VIN to see if yours is one.

Problems by model year

EPA's data has the Sierra EV for 2025 and 2026, in Standard and Extended Range versions with 11 kW or 19 kW chargers. Wikipedia says production started in May 2023 at Factory Zero in Detroit, at first in limited numbers for fleet and commercial buyers. It rides on the GM BT1 platform with the Hummer EV, with two motors and rear- or four-wheel drive. The Standard Range battery is a 119 kWh Ultium pack.

We took these counts from NHTSA on October 10, 2026; each is one owner's report, never a reliability grade. Recall vehicle counts cover the whole campaign, and every campaign here also names other GM models, most often the Chevrolet Silverado EV.

2025: wipers and a seat belt bolt

Eight complaints. Wipers and visibility lead with 3, then one each for the propulsion system and power train. One complaint reports a crash with an injury. Recall 25V015 covers the bolt holding the rear center seat belt to the seat, which may not be tight. GM tightens it free. 5 vehicles in the campaign.

2026: stability control, wheels and the battery

Five complaints: suspension (2), service brakes (1) and vehicle speed control (1). Four recall campaigns:

  • 25V594: after a stability control malfunction, the warning light may not come on as it should. The brake control software is updated by a dealer or over the air. 1,191 vehicles.
  • 26V496: steel wheels, listed under the spare tire, that can crack at the vent holes. Dealers inspect them and replace any that need it. Letters went out September 23, 2026. 952 vehicles.
  • 26V494: the high-voltage battery may have an improperly secured internal part. Dealers replace the battery. Letters went out August 24, 2026. 11 vehicles across Escalade IQ, Escalade IQL, Silverado EV, Sierra EV and 2022 Hummer EV Pickup.
  • 26V114: dealers reset the radio, which lets the manual arrive electronically. 5,861 vehicles across a long list of GM models.

Thirteen in NHTSA's file on October 10, 2026, split 8 for the 2025 and 5 for the 2026. A truck on sale this recently has had little time for owners to file, so read these as early numbers.
