Selling a Hyundai Azera that isn't worth fixing

Every one of the 81 complaints NHTSA files under steering for the Azera is on a 2012 or later car. The earlier Azeras have a different set of complaints: air bags, seats and brake lights. So the model year tells you most of what to expect from an Azera with problems.

2006-2011: air bags, seats and brake lights

The Azera was a large Hyundai sedan, sold in the US from the 2006 to the 2017 model year. This page splits the cars at the 2012 model year, where the steering complaints begin.

The first six years hold 443 of the 713 complaints. The 2006 alone has 188, led by air bags (51) and exterior lighting (38). The 2007 adds 38 more air bag complaints and 25 about seats, and the 2008 has 21 more about seats.

Recalls that match those complaints:

  • 09V497, 2006-2009: the wiring harness for the right front seat belt tension sensor can be damaged. This campaign names only the Azera, 65,185 vehicles. 10V007 is the same fix for 80 cars in Puerto Rico.
  • 16V630, 2007-2008: the power driver's seat may move on its own. Dealers replace the seat switch. 9,700 vehicles.
  • 09V122 and 13V113: stop lamp switches that can keep brake lights from working. Both campaigns cover many Hyundai models (532,633 and 1,712,336 vehicles), so most of those cars are not Azeras.
  • 18V026, 2006-2011: water may get into the ABS module and short it. Dealers install a relay in the main junction box. The 87,854 vehicles include 2006 Sonatas.
  • 13V354, 2006-2011: dealers repair or replace the rear suspension crossmember. This campaign covers 364,502 Sonata and Azera vehicles.

2012-2017: steering, air bag sensing and the ABS fuse

These six years hold 270 complaints. Steering leads on the 2012 (37 of 74) and the 2013 (27 of 112). The 2013 also has six fire reports, the most of any Azera year. On the 2014, the hydraulic service brakes lead (18 of 48).

  • 13V264, 2012-2013: a fault in the front occupant detection system. Dealers recalibrate the air bag system. 5,200 vehicles, Azera only.
  • 23V651, 2012-2015: owners are told to park outside until dealers replace the ABS fuse. It's one campaign covering 1,649,478 vehicles across many Hyundai models.
  • 21V619, 2016-2017: the trunk latch can be damaged so the trunk won't open from inside. The 348,158 vehicles span the Sonata, Sonata Hybrid, Accent and Azera.

Complaints and recalls by model year

Azera owner reports from NHTSA's file, pulled on October 10, 2026. They are not confirmed defects or a reliability rating. A 2015-2017 Azera simply hasn't been driven as long as a 2006 Azera, so owners have filed less about it. Quiet runs are grouped, and their totals are sums of the yearly figures.

Repair it or sell it?

  1. Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup. The ABS campaigns cover 2006-2015 cars, and the seat belt sensor campaigns 2006-2009.
  2. ABS light, brake trouble, or a fuse that keeps blowing? See bad or seized brakes and electrical problems.
  3. Set the quote against the car's value. A big repair on a large sedan this age can exceed what a running Azera of the same year sells for. If it does, selling it whole is the simpler path.

Selling your Azera whole

  1. Have ready: the VIN, mileage, what's wrong, and whether it starts.
  2. Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Tell us where it's parked. If a park-outside recall applies, the truck meets it outside. Mention a dead battery or a steering lock.
  4. Don't strip it. The offer depends on what's there, so tell us about anything removed.
  5. When the truck arrives, bring the keys, your ID and the signed-over title. After you sell covers plates and insurance.

Questions people ask

Which Azera years have the most complaints?
The 2006 is first with 188 NHTSA complaints on October 10, 2026. The 2007 (132) and the 2013 (112) come next. The 2015-2017 cars have 36 between them, and they are also the youngest, with fewer years for owners to report anything.
Is there an ABS recall on my Azera?
Two ABS recalls apply to different years. 18V026 covers 2006-2011 Azeras, where water may get into the ABS module and short it; dealers add a relay. 23V651 covers 2012-2015 Azeras; owners are told to park outside until dealers replace the ABS fuse. 23V651 covers 1,649,478 vehicles across many Hyundai models, not just the Azera.
Will you buy an Azera that won't start?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Let us know if it can roll and still has all four wheels.
Do I have to remove anything before the Azera is picked up?
Only your belongings. You sell the whole car as it sits, with the catalytic converter, battery and wheels still on it.
