Selling a damaged or dead Hyundai Ioniq 6

Half of all NHTSA complaints about the Ioniq 6 name the electrical system: 66 of 130. The recalls point the same way. Two campaigns deal with the Integrated Charging Control Unit, or ICCU, and the second one replaced the first.

If your Ioniq 6 won't charge, has been in a crash or has turned into a money pit, it can still be sold in one piece. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, EVs included, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.

Complaint numbers come from NHTSA's owner reports, tallied Oct. 10, 2026; they are not a defect total or a reliability rating. Every Ioniq 6 is a 2023 or later, so even the oldest has had only a few years for owners to report trouble, and a 2025 has had less.

What the Ioniq 6 is

Wikipedia describes it as a battery electric mid-size sedan on Hyundai's E-GMP platform, related to the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 9, Kia EV6 and Kia EV9. Production began in July 2022 at the Asan plant in South Korea, which also builds the Sonata. It comes with rear-motor rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive, and batteries from 53 to 77.4 kWh.

Wikipedia also reports that the standard Ioniq 6 was dropped from the US market after the 2025 model year because of low sales and import tariffs. NHTSA's complaint file covers the 2023 to 2025 model years.

Known problems, recall by recall

Charging unit (ICCU)

  • 24V204 covered 2023-2024 cars, part of a 99,055-vehicle campaign that also included the Ioniq 5 and three Genesis models. NHTSA files it under the 12-volt battery.
  • 24V868 replaced it and widened it to 2023-2025 cars. The newer remedy: an inspection, a new ICCU and fuse where needed, and fresh ICCU software. A car fixed under 24V204 still needs it. The 145,642 count covers the whole campaign, Ioniq 5 and Genesis models included.

These are the recalls to check first if your car shows charging faults or electrical warnings.

Driveline

  • Rear driveshaft (24V065). On some 2023 cars, a faulty heat treatment of the rear inner driveshaft can let it break under load, and dealers replace it. That campaign of 1,165 includes the Ioniq 5 and Genesis GV60.
  • Differential bolts (24V283). On 2024 Ioniq 6s, bolts in the gear drive unit may have been left under-torqued, and the car can lose drive power. The fix is a new gear drive unit, and the campaign holds just 2 vehicles.

Body and belts

  • Charging port door (25V606). The door panel may come off on 2023-2025 cars. Dealers apply adhesive. This one is Ioniq 6 only, at 31,042 vehicles.
  • Seat belt anchors (26V218). The front seat belt anchors may detach on 2023-2025 cars. Dealers inspect and reinforce or replace them. The 294,448 count includes the Genesis G90 and the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid.

Complaints and recalls by model year

NHTSA owner complaints as read Oct. 10, 2026. Four of the six campaigns reach across two or three model years, which is why the recall column sums to 13.

No fires or deaths are reported in any complaint, and one reports an injury. Owners say the car was towed in 7 complaints.

Worth repairing?

  1. Check the ICCU recall status. Put the VIN into NHTSA's recall lookup. If 24V868 is open, a Hyundai dealer should handle it first.
  2. Battery or charging failure outside a recall? Our EV battery failed guide explains how to weigh it.
  3. Warnings that keep coming back? See electrical problems.
  4. Crash damage? See wrecked or totaled. Financing still open? Read still owe on the loan.

Then compare the written repair quote with what a running Ioniq 6 of the same year and battery size sells for.

Selling the whole car

  1. Have the VIN, mileage and the warning messages you're seeing written down.
  2. Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Tell us how it sits. Does the dash wake up? Will Neutral engage? Is it in a garage, a parking lot or at a dealer's service lane? An EV that won't leave Park needs a flatbed set up to load it.
  4. Keep everything with the car, including the charging cable and both key fobs. Sell the whole car as it sits.
  5. Hand over the title and show an ID when the driver arrives. Then see after you sell.

Questions people ask

Which Ioniq 6 recall covers the charging unit (ICCU)?
The Integrated Charging Control Unit is the subject of two campaigns. Recall 24V204 covered 2023-2024 cars and was replaced by 24V868, which covers 2023-2025. Dealers check the unit, replace the ICCU and its fuse when needed, and load new software. Cars repaired under the first recall need the new remedy too.
Which Ioniq 6 year has the most NHTSA complaints?
The 2023 holds 56 of the 130 in NHTSA's file (Oct. 10, 2026 count). The 2024 has 38 and the 2025 has 36, and those later cars have logged fewer months in owners' hands, so the gap may narrow.
Is the Ioniq 6 still sold in the US?
Wikipedia reports that the standard Ioniq 6 was dropped from the US market after the 2025 model year, citing low sales and import tariffs. EPA data still lists models through 2027, including the Ioniq 6 N.
Will you buy an Ioniq 6 that won't charge or power on?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, EVs included, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Tell us whether the dash wakes up and whether Neutral engages; that tells the driver how to load it.
