Selling a wrecked or broken Hyundai Palisade
Seat belts are the second thing Palisade owners complain to NHTSA about most: 356 of 2,460 complaints. In 2025 Hyundai recalled 568,580 Palisades from 2020-2025 because the buckles in the driver, passenger and second-row window seats may not latch. Only service brakes, at 375, draw more complaints.

What owners have reported
Each figure here is a Palisade owner's complaint in NHTSA's records up to October 10, 2026, an account from the driver's seat rather than a proven defect. The 2026 and 2027 Palisades have barely begun to log miles, so their counts are early. Recall vehicle numbers are totals for the whole campaign; most Palisade campaigns name only the Palisade, but 23V526000 and 26V047000 reach other Hyundais too.
First generation (LX2), 2020-2025
Wikipedia lists 3.5- and 3.8-liter Lambda II V6s and an 8-speed automatic, and calls this Hyundai's flagship SUV. It also notes IIHS Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards for 2021-2023.
Wipers, 2020-2023. Visibility and wipers top the 2020's complaints (108 of 538). Two recalls replace the driver-side wiper arm: 22V627000 on 2020-2021 models (122,949 vehicles) and 23V180000 on 2021-2023 models (167,085), where snow or ice can stop the wiper motor.
Seat belts and air bags, 2020-2025. Seat belts lead the complaints on the 2021 (105) and 2022 (66). Recall 25V607000 covers the buckles. Recall 26V034000 covers the third-row side curtain air bags on 568,576 Palisades from the same years; dealers fit a protective film and remove padding as needed. The 2020 also had recall 19V802000 for curtain air bag mounting bolts.
Brakes, 2023-2025. Service brakes jump to the top on the 2023 (76), the 2024 (215 of 389) and the 2025 (84). The brake recalls in the data are small: 21V840000 replaced the master cylinder on 995 2021 Palisades with contaminated brake fluid, and 23V415000 replaced brake boosters on 322 2023 models. No campaign in our data matches the scale of the 2024 brake complaints.
Engine and oil pump. Recall 24V106000 replaces the engine sub-assembly on 4,245 2024 Palisades whose valve springs can break, cutting drive power and possibly holing the block. Recall 25V291000 replaces the electric oil pump on 620 2025 models, with a park-outside warning. Tow hitch harnesses on 2020-2022 models are covered by 22V633000 (244,980 vehicles), also park outside.
Second generation (LX3), 2026 on
Wikipedia lists a 2.5-liter turbo four, a 3.5-liter V6 and a hybrid with a 6-speed automatic. It says the 2026 was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. On the 2026, seats lead the complaints (38 of 126). Recall 26V160000 covers second- and third-row power seats on Limited and Calligraphy trims that may fail to detect a person (61,307 vehicles). Articles cited by Wikipedia report a stop-sale on the 2026 ahead of that recall, since ended. Recall 26V169000 fixes third-row seat belt wiring on the same trims.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Built from NHTSA's Palisade complaint records as of October 10, 2026. Several Palisade campaigns cover five or six model years at once, which pushes the column total well past the actual 16.

Repair, or sell it broken?
A Palisade is new enough that a dealer repair is often the right call, so check what's covered first.
- Run the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup. Most of the Palisade recalls above list a free dealer repair.
- Engine failed on a 2024? Ask a dealer whether your VIN falls under 24V106000 before anything else.
- Brake trouble on a 2023-2025? Our bad brakes guide covers what to check and when it stops making sense.
- Crash damage? If your insurer totaled it or the repair estimate is close to the SUV's value, read selling a wrecked car.
Selling the Palisade whole
- Collect the VIN, mileage and damage details, plus the trim and whether it's a Hybrid.
- Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Let us know where it's parked. A full-size, three-row SUV takes the right truck, so mention a tight garage or wheels that won't turn. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
- Leave it complete, wheels and all. If a shop already pulled parts, list them.
- Have the title and ID at pickup. If there's still a loan, see still owe on the loan. Then check after you sell.
Other Hyundai SUVs: Santa Fe, Tucson, Ioniq 9, or every Hyundai model.
Questions people ask
- Is my Palisade part of the seat belt buckle recall?
- If it's a 2020-2025, it may be. Recall 25V607000 covers 568,580 Palisades whose driver, passenger and second-row window seat buckles may fail to latch. Until it's repaired, Hyundai tells passengers to push the belt firmly into the buckle and tug it to confirm. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Which Palisade year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- It's the 2020, the launch year, at 538 on October 10, 2026. The 2021 has 442 and the 2023 has 400. The 2026 and 2027 have had far less time to collect complaints.
- Will you buy a Palisade with a failed engine or crash damage?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, including big SUVs, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Describe the damage or the failure, whether the SUV still rolls, and the address where it sits.
