A damaged battery or a crushed corner doesn't need repairing before we make an offer. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and that includes electric ones.
The three recalls
Each campaign below lists the 2026 Ioniq 9. The repairs are free at a dealer.
| Recall | What it covers | Vehicles in the campaign | Also covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 26V068 | A high-voltage battery bus bar that may not be tightened right, which can cause a short circuit. Dealers tighten the bolts and replace the battery assembly if needed. | 27 | 2025-2026 Ioniq 5 |
| 26V314 | Rear suspension fasteners that may loosen and detach, which can mean a loss of control. Dealers replace them and align the rear. | 172 | 2025 Ioniq 5 |
| 26V588 | Second-row power seats that may not detect a person. Limited, Calligraphy and Calligraphy Design trims only. | 5,360 | Ioniq 9 only |
The first two counts are whole-campaign numbers shared with the Ioniq 5, so they are not Ioniq 9 counts alone.
What owners have reported so far
These figures come from NHTSA's records on October 10, 2026. A new model has had little time to collect complaints, and the 2027 has none on file yet.
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes | Injured | Recall campaigns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 37 | 0 | 4 | 3 |
| 2027 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
After the electrical system (17), owners named forward collision avoidance 3 times, the power train 3, and the fuel and propulsion system, structure and "unknown or other" twice each. Four complaints report someone injured; none report a crash or fire.
The car in short
Wikipedia lists a 110.3 kWh lithium-ion battery on Hyundai's E-GMP platform, the same base as the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Kia EV6 and Kia EV9. EPA data shows three versions: RWD, AWD and AWD Performance. US trims run S, SE, SEL, Limited, Calligraphy and Calligraphy Design. It is built in Asan, South Korea, and at Hyundai's Metaplant in Bryan County, Georgia.
Fix it or sell it?
On a car this new, start with the warranty and the recalls. Run your VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup, and ask a Hyundai dealer what the factory coverage includes.
If the damage is from a crash or water, the insurer usually decides first. Our guides on a totaled car and on keeping the check and selling unrepaired cover that. If the traction battery is the issue, see EV battery failed.
Selling it whole
Sell the whole car as it sits, battery in place. Don't take parts off.
Have the VIN, the title or loan payoff details, and a list of the damage. If you still owe on it, read selling with a loan owed first. Tell us where it is parked and whether it rolls in Neutral; a heavy electric SUV that won't roll needs a flatbed. Pickup is free anywhere in the US. Get an offer online or call (877) 421-6008. Other Hyundai models: the Ioniq 5 and Kona.
Questions people ask
- What do Ioniq 9 owners complain about most?
- The electrical system, in 17 of the 37 complaints NHTSA had on file on October 10, 2026. Forward collision avoidance and power train come next with 3 each. The model is new, so these counts are early.
- Is the second-row seat recall on every Ioniq 9?
- No. Recall 26V588 covers 2026 Ioniq 9s with the Limited, Calligraphy or Calligraphy Design trim. The second-row power seats may not detect a person. Hyundai advises caution with those seat controls until the repair is done. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Will you buy an Ioniq 9 after a crash?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, wrecked ones included, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us where the damage is and whether it rolls.
