Selling a dead or junk car in Ammon
Sell a car in Ammon and the plates stay in your hands, not the buyer's. Idaho Code 49-431 keeps the plates and the registration card with the seller. So the last thing you do before the car rolls away is take the plates off. If you have a dead car to part with, we buy whole non-running and junk cars. You sell the whole car as it sits, and pickup is free anywhere in the US.

What happens to those plates
You can display the plate on another vehicle only after that vehicle is registered, and the transfer costs $5. Idaho registration runs on a staggered monthly system set by your registration card, so keep the card with the plate. If you have no next car yet, hold on to both.
The 5-day step most sellers skip
Ammon sellers file a release of liability with ITD within 5 days of the sale. The fee is $3.50. After filing, an Ammon seller stops owing for tickets, tow bills, storage, repairs or service the car runs up later. That counts with a junk car, which may sit in a yard for months after leaving your Ammon driveway. Knowingly filing a release with false information is unlawful, so use the real date and buyer.
Ammon's own rules
We searched for Ammon's city code and came up empty. This page leans on Idaho law, and Ammon could set limits of its own on inoperable or unregistered cars parked on a lot or a street.
State law sets a floor. Dumping a vehicle on a highway is barred, and so is leaving one on someone else's property, public or private, without that person's say-so. If the dead car on your lot belongs to someone else, and your property is not commercial and not posted, you can have a tow company remove it by signing a release form with the company. Signing over the title
Ammon sits in Bonneville County, the same county as Idaho Falls, 3.9 miles away. Private-sale title paperwork goes through the Bonneville County assessor's motor vehicle office. Your buyer gets 30 days to file before a $20.00 penalty kicks in.
You hand over the existing title signed to release your interest, along with any lienholder's release. In Ammon, a car newer than 2010 and under 16,000 lb needs an odometer disclosure too. A car leaving for scrap rather than the road gets "for junk only" across the front of its title, a mark that follows it onto every later title. No title? See selling with no title.
