Selling a dead or junk Isuzu Pickup

Three of the four recall campaigns NHTSA lists for the Isuzu Pickup are about front seat belt buckles. Owners also filed 12 seat belt complaints, second only to the 15 filed about hydraulic brakes. On a truck from 1984 to 1995, those are the two things to check before anything else.

The two generations sold here

The EPA data covers 1984 to 1995, which spans two generations on Wikipedia's list.

  • Second generation (1980-1988): gasoline engines include the 1.6 L G161Z, the 1.6 L 4ZA1 and the 1.8 L G180Z.
  • Third generation, TF (1988-2002): gasoline engines include the 2.2 L C22NE/22LE, the 2.3 L 4ZD1 and the 2.6 L 4ZE1, with a 5-speed manual.

Both are front-engine, rear-wheel-drive compact pickups. The EPA lists a 2WD, a 2WD 1-Ton and a 4WD.

Recalls on the TF trucks

All four campaigns fall on the TF generation's years.

  • 95V103 (1990-1991): in these Isuzu pickups, the red plastic belt buttons marked "PRESS" may crack, and loose pieces can fall inside the buckle so it won't latch or release right. 88,424 vehicles were in that campaign, and it may reach beyond this truck.
  • 96V170 (1994): the latch plate in the buckle was not made to design dimensions, so a tongue inserted slowly at an angle may only partly engage. Dealers inspect and replace the buckle if needed. 36,075 vehicles in the campaign.
  • 02V281 (1994-1995): the same latch plate problem on certain SUVs and pickups. 14,449 vehicles, across models.
  • 97V034 (1995): a circuit inside the voltage regulator can carry manufacturing errors. Dealers replace the regulator. The 118,485 count from NHTSA covers the full campaign, so it may include Isuzus besides the pickup.

Brake complaints are spread out rather than tied to a recall: three each on the 1993, 1994 and 1995, two on the 1990 and 1992.

Complaints and recalls by year

Isuzu Pickup rows from NHTSA's owner complaint data, pulled October 10, 2026. Crash, injury and death figures are what owners wrote in those reports.

The 1985 has no complaints on file. One 1991 complaint mentions a fire. The 1996 row is later than any year in the EPA data.

Worth fixing?

Run the truck's VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup first, since three buckle campaigns hit these years. Then price the real problem. A small truck with worn brakes and a tired engine can cost more to sort out than it sells for running. If the quote gets near that number, sell it as it sits. The bad brakes guide walks through that call, and junk truck or SUV covers the selling side.

How to sell the truck whole

  1. Note the VIN, mileage, and whether it starts, rolls and steers.
  2. Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Tell us where it sits and how the tow truck reaches it: driveway, field, alley or shop lot.
  4. Clear out your tools and papers, but keep the parts on.
  5. As your Isuzu pickup is loaded on the flatbed, give the driver your signed title and let them see your ID.
