Selling an old Isuzu Hombre pickup

The Hombre is a small pickup, and a dead one is simple to sell whole. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.

The Wikipedia article we cite for the Hombre covers GM's S-series compact pickups and lists General Motors as the manufacturer. For the second generation, built for North America from 1993 to 2004, it lists a 2.2-liter four and a 4.3-liter V6, and the automatic it names is the 4L60-E four-speed. EPA data has the Hombre from 1996 to 2002, in 2WD, 4WD and a flex-fuel 2WD version. In 2004 the S-series was replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Isuzu i-Series.

Problems by model year

The complaint figures are Hombre owners' own reports in NHTSA's file, pulled October 10, 2026, and say what drivers flagged rather than how good the truck was. The 2000, the newest year with any reports, has also had the fewest years to collect them. Recall totals describe each campaign in full and may include other GM trucks.

1996-1997. 62 complaints, with visibility leading both years (20 and 12). Recall 98V150002 (1996) and recall 03V210000 (1996-1997) deal with solder joints that could crack on the wiper motor's controller board, leaving wipers working on and off or not at all. Dealers replace the board and cover. The second campaign counts 14,860 pickups with certain engine combinations. Other early campaigns: a Brazilian-market headlamp fitted by mistake (96V059001), top coat paint peeling where the windshield bonds (97V008002, all 8 trucks repurchased), seat belt webbing at the recliner (97V096002), and on trucks with the 4.3-liter engine, a front brake line that could rub the oil pan (97V146002).

1998. The busiest year, 53 complaints, with visibility at 23 and engine and engine cooling at 7. Recall 97V208002: an engine wiring harness clip could melt and drip onto the exhaust manifold. 1,299 vehicles.

1999-2002. Only 7 complaints, all on the 2000, led by air bags (2). Recall 00V258002 covers a certification label that overstated payload.

Fix or sell?

Look up open recalls on NHTSA by VIN first; the wiper campaigns may still show. If the trouble is the engine, rust or the frame, price the repair and weigh it against asking prices for a running Hombre with your cab and year. Our junk truck guide covers the rest.
