Selling a dead or junk Jeep Commander
The Commander was sold for only five model years, and the first one carries more than half its complaints. Of the 3,362 Commander complaints in NHTSA's owner file on October 10, 2026, 1,782 are for the 2006. The electrical system is named in 614 of those.

A Commander that won't start, stalls or has a list of electrical faults doesn't need to be fixed before you sell it. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US.
2006-2007: where most complaints sit
The first two years hold 2,817 complaints together. The electrical system leads both: 614 of 1,782 on the 2006 and 423 of 1,035 on the 2007. Engine and engine cooling follow on the 2006 with 256, then the power train with 195.
Recall 08V203 is a software recall. It covers 24,461 2006 Commanders with the 4.7-liter V8 built before January 11, 2006, whose engine computer software could let the engine stall. Dealers reprogram it.
Other recalls on these years:
- 14V438: a new ignition switch on 2006-2007 models. Before the fix, owners were asked to move the seat so the key has knee clearance. The 649,353-vehicle campaign includes the Grand Cherokee.
- 06V037: third-row seat belts on 2006 models that a bracket edge could rub and damage.
- 07V434: ABS software on 2006-2007 SUVs that could briefly delay braking while coasting up a hill. Its 296,550 vehicles go beyond the Commander.
- 07V415: front brake calipers on 2007-2008 SUVs from one lot made of gray iron instead of ductile iron, which could crack without warning.
2008-2010: fewer complaints, more small recalls
The last three years hold 541 complaints: 437 on the 2008, 59 on the 2009 and 45 on the 2010. Electrical is still the top component each year. Recall 10V200 replaces the wireless ignition node on some 2010 models, and 10V085 checks the rear track bar on 2010 Commanders and Grand Cherokees.
Every Commander year is in recall 13V175, which updates the transfer case controller software on 2006-2010 Commanders and 2005-2010 Grand Cherokees, 295,345 vehicles in total.

Repair or sell?
Every Commander is now 16 or more model years old. Set the estimate beside what a running Commander of your year fetches.
- Check your VIN at NHTSA. Dealers handle an open stalling or ignition recall free.
- Electrical faults you can't trace? Read electrical problems before paying for more diagnosis.
- Won't start at all? See car doesn't run.
Selling a Commander whole
- Write down the VIN, mileage and what it does or doesn't do.
- Ask for an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Let us know where the Commander is parked and if it rolls in Neutral.
- Leave the parts on. You sell the whole car as it sits.

More Jeeps: the Grand Cherokee, Liberty and Wrangler, or all Jeep models.
Questions people ask
- Is the Jeep Commander still made?
- Not this one. EPA data lists the US Commander for 2006-2010 only. Wikipedia says the name is now used on a different Compass-based crossover sold outside the US and Canada since 2021, and was used on a Chinese-market model.
- Which Commander year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2006, with 1,782 as of October 10, 2026, more than half of all 3,362. The 2007 has 1,035 and the 2008 has 437. The 2009 and 2010 have 59 and 45.
- Will you buy a Commander that stalls or won't start?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Say whether it cranks and whether it can be rolled.
