Selling a dead or damaged Lexus RC

Four of the Lexus RC's five recall campaigns are about fuel pumps. RC owners also pointed to the fuel and propulsion system most often at NHTSA, in 11 of 49 complaints. So if your RC has quit and the fuel pump is a suspect, check the recalls before you pay for anything.

One generation, two V6 engines

The RC is a two-door coupe. Wikipedia lists production from 2014 to 2025 at the Tahara plant in Aichi, Japan, on the Toyota New N platform it shares with the IS and GS. It came with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The line ended after 2025. The clearer split is the V6: the 2GR-FSE through 2017, then the 2GR-FKS.

2015-2017: the early cars

These years carry 39 of the 49 complaints. The 2015 alone has 24, and its top component is seats (6), ahead of fuel and propulsion (5) and electrical (2). One 2016 complaint reports a fire.

Engines were the 3.5-liter V6 (RC 350), the 2.0-liter turbo four (RC 200t, later RC 300) and the RC F's 5.0-liter V8. Recall 18V107 is the V8's: certain 2015-2018 RC F cars with two high-pressure fuel pumps got both replaced free. Its 9,905-vehicle count also covers the GS F and the 2018 LC 500, so not all of those cars are RCs.

2018-2025: the later V6

Complaints thin out here. There are 2 for 2018, 4 for 2019, 2 for 2020 and 1 each for 2022 and 2025. Three of these complaints report a crash, and one 2019 complaint reports an injury.

The recalls stay with fuel pumps. The two 2020 pump campaigns, 20V012 and 20V682, reached far past this coupe, to 4Runners, Camrys, Tacomas and other Lexus models. That is why they total 1,830,752 and 1,525,742 vehicles; the RC is a small slice of each. Recall 26V222, reported April 8, 2026, is narrower. It covers 2015-2022 RCs, 2016-2020 GS and 2022 IS cars whose low-pressure pump inside the tank may fail. That campaign counts 9,139 vehicles. Interim letters went out June 5, 2026.

The last recall is a paperwork one. On 13 RC F cars from 2020-2022, the tire label left out the weight capacity.

RC complaints and recalls by model year

Each count is an owner complaint in NHTSA's data on October 10, 2026. The same recall can appear in several rows.

Model yearComplaintsCrash / fire reportsRecall campaignsComponents named most

201650 / 12Fuel/propulsion 2

202021 / 02Unknown or other 1, wheels 1
202210 / 02Fuel/propulsion 1

The 2021, 2023 and 2024 rows would read zero, so they're left out. Newer RC coupes have been driven for fewer years, so their totals stay small.

Repair it or sell it?

  1. Look up the VIN before any diagnosis on NHTSA's recall page. A stall or no-start on a car with an open fuel pump recall may be a free dealer fix. Our open recall guide covers selling with one still open.
  2. If the engine itself is gone, see blown engine for how to weigh it.
  3. Repair or sell the RC? Hold a shop's written quote up against asking prices for running RCs like yours. When the two get close, repairs cost more than it's worth walks through the choice.

Selling the RC whole

  1. Note the RC's VIN, its mileage and what it's doing.
  2. Ask for an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. The RC sits low, so mention a steep driveway or a flat tire before the truck is sent.
  4. Keep the wheels, converter and battery on the car, and flag anything already pulled.
  5. Pickup day needs the title and your photo ID. The after you sell guide covers plates and insurance by state.

Questions people ask

Which Lexus RC model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
The 2015, with 24 of the RC's 49 complaints as of October 10, 2026. The 2017 is next with 10. A 2022 or 2025 RC hasn't been driven as many years as a 2015, so owners have filed fewer complaints so far.
Is my RC covered by the 2026 fuel pump recall?
It may be. Recall 26V222, reported April 8, 2026, covers certain 2015-2022 RCs for a low-pressure fuel pump inside the tank that may fail. Dealers replace the pump assembly free. Look up the RC's VIN on nhtsa.gov/recalls to learn if 26V222 covers it and the pump is still waiting for a swap.
Will you buy an RC that won't start or has a blown engine?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Mention the symptom, if the coupe can be pushed, and where it sits.
Does the RC F have its own recalls?
Two name it. Recall 18V107 replaced the high-pressure fuel pumps on 2015-2018 RC F cars with the 5.0-liter V8, and recall 22V615 replaced a tire information label on 13 RC F cars from 2020-2022.
