Selling a dead or damaged Lexus RZ
The 2026 Lexus RZ already has 6 complaints on file with NHTSA, and 5 of them name the electrical system. Across every RZ year it's 10 of 24, the clearest pattern this electric crossover has. If yours has an electrical fault nobody can pin down, or it was damaged and the repair looks endless, you can sell it whole.

What the RZ is
The RZ is Lexus's battery-electric crossover, built at the Motomachi plant in Toyota City since 2023, per Wikipedia. The RZ shares its e-TNGA platform with the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, and offers a front motor or dual motors (Direct4). Wikipedia lists battery packs of 71.4, 72.8 and 77 kWh. EPA lists the RZ 300e, RZ 350e and RZ 450e on 18- and 20-inch wheels.
Recalls and complaints, 2023-2025
These three years hold 18 of the 24 complaints. The 2023 has 11, spread thinly over structure, air bags and unknown or other. The 2024 has 5, and 4 of them name the electrical system.
Two recalls reach all three years. 25V577: during some HVAC faults, such as an electric compressor failure, the defroster and defogger may stop working. Dealers update the HVAC control software free, inspect the compressor and replace it if needed. The campaign counts 94,320 vehicles, but that number also includes the bZ4X and Solterra. 25V744: a software update for the Panoramic View Monitor parking camera. Its 1,024,407 vehicles span 2022-2026 Toyota, Lexus and Subaru models.
Recalls and complaints, 2026
Six complaints so far, 5 of them electrical and 1 for latches and locks. On 2026 bZ, RZ and Solterra models, recall 26V393 targets the computer running the high-voltage battery. The software update is free at dealers, and owners were mailed letters August 17, 2026. All three models make up the 20,991-vehicle count.
Complaints and recalls by model year
Complaints RZ owners filed with NHTSA, tallied on October 10, 2026. An RZ this young has had only a few years to pick up complaints, so every row is small.
| Year | Complaints | Crash reports | Recalls | Named most |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 11 | 1 | 2 | Structure, unknown or other, air bags (1 each) |
| 2024 | 5 | 1 | 2 | Electrical 4, seat belts 1 |
| 2025 | 2 | 0 | 2 | Fuel/propulsion 1, unknown or other 1 |
| 2026 | 6 | 0 | 1 | Electrical 5, latches/locks 1 |
Fix it or let it go
Since the RZ is so new, start with a free check: enter its VIN at NHTSA's recall search. All three recall fixes are free, and each one includes a software update. Ask a Lexus dealer what the factory warranty still covers before you pay for anything. When the RZ's high-voltage battery fails out of coverage, our EV battery guide helps you think it through. For a fault that keeps coming back, see electrical problems.
Selling an RZ whole
- Note the VIN, the mileage and the warning lights or messages on the screen.
- Ask for an offer online or call (877) 421-6008.
- Say where the RZ sits now, and if it powers on and shifts to Neutral.
- Leave the battery pack and wheels in place.
- When the RZ is collected, keep its title, key fobs and a photo ID handy. Wipe your phone pairing and saved addresses first; clear your data shows how.
Questions people ask
- What do Lexus RZ owners complain about to NHTSA?
- Mostly the electrical system: 10 of 24 (NHTSA count, October 10, 2026). On the 2026 model it's 5 of 6. Two complaints report a crash and four say the car was towed.
- Which RZ recalls should I check?
- For 2023-2025: 25V577 (defroster and defogger during HVAC faults) and 25V744 (Panoramic View Monitor software). For 2026: 26V393, a software update for the computer that controls the high-voltage battery. Look yours up by VIN on nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Will you buy an RZ that won't power on?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, electric ones included, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Let us know if it still shifts to Neutral; a locked EV gets loaded differently.
