Selling a damaged or non-running Lexus NX
The 2022 NX, the first year of the second generation, is listed in six recall campaigns. One of them, 22V238000, is for missing spot welds between the body panels and the front shock absorber mounting areas. Across the 2015 to 2026 model years, owners have filed 336 complaints with NHTSA and the NX appears in 17 recall campaigns.

Two generations, two recall lists
Each NX number on this page is an owner complaint count from NHTSA, pulled October 10, 2026. A 2025 or 2026 NX has far fewer months of driving than a 2015, so its count is still growing.
| Generation | Model years | Engines and gearboxes (Wikipedia) | Complaints | Recall campaigns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First (AZ10) | 2015-2021 | 2.0 turbo four (NX 200t, NX 300) with a 6-speed automatic; NX 300h hybrid with an eCVT | 217 | 5 |
| Second (AZ20) | 2022-2026 | 2.4 turbo four, 2.5 four, hybrid and plug-in hybrid; CVT, 8-speed automatic or eCVT | 119 | 12 |
First generation: ABS, air bag sensors and fuel pumps
The 2015 drew 47 complaints, the most of this generation, led by "unknown or other" (9) and air bags (8). Three campaigns list it. Recall 15V341000 covered 2015 NX 200t models built December 18, 2014 to February 2, 2015; dealers inspected the ABS actuator and replaced it as needed. Recall 18V085000 replaced side air bag sensors on 2015-2016 NX 200t and NX 300h models, in a 48,672-vehicle campaign that also took in the 2016 Prius and RX.
Fuel delivery is the thread through the later years. On the 2019, 11 of 44 complaints are filed under fuel/propulsion and 10 under the gasoline fuel system. Three fuel pump campaigns touch this generation: 20V012000 (listed for the 2015), 20V682000 (2018-2019) and 25V028000, which replaced the low-pressure pump on 2019 NX 300 models. The first two covered 1,830,752 and 1,525,742 vehicles across many Toyota and Lexus models, so those totals are not NX counts. The third counted 858 vehicles, including some 2018 Camry and 2019 RX 350L.
Brakes keep turning up too. Service brakes are a top-three component on the 2016, 2017 and 2018. The 2020's leading category is the engine (7), and the 2021 has 17 complaints, the fewest of the generation.
Second generation: welds, brake software and a plug-in charging warning
The redesign arrived for 2022. That year has 31 complaints, led by "unknown or other" (8) and service brakes (7). Besides the weld campaign, recall 22V661000 reprogrammed the Skid Control ECU in the brake actuator on 2022 NX 250 and NX 350 models, which could falsely detect an overcurrent condition. Recall 22V239000 updated the same unit's software on the NX 350h and NX 450h+ and many other hybrids.
Plug-in owners got an unusual instruction. Under recall 23V478000, which covers the 2022 NX 450h+ and the RAV4 Prime, owners were advised not to charge when the air temperature is below or expected to drop below 41 degrees Fahrenheit. The issue sits in the rectifying module inside the DC-DC converter.
The 2024 has the most complaints of any NX year, 48, and 16 of them are filed under the electrical system. Five campaigns list it, including two for the driver air bag spiral cable (23V480000 and 25V040000) and 26V162000, where the backup camera picture can fail to appear when the SUV is shifted to reverse. The 2025 is in six campaigns. One, 24V911000, covered only 70 vehicles: front brake caliper and hub bearing bolts that may be loose.
Complaints and recalls by model year
| Model year | Complaints | Crashes reported | Leading component | Recall campaigns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2015 | 47 | 7 | Unknown or other (9) | 3 |
| 2016 | 26 | 6 | Service brakes (5) | 1 |
| 2017 | 30 | 9 | Unknown or other (4) | 0 |
| 2018 | 26 | 3 | Fuel/propulsion (7) | 1 |
| 2019 | 44 | 2 | Fuel/propulsion (11) | 2 |
| 2020 | 27 | 1 | Engine (7) | 0 |
| 2021 | 17 | 1 | Visibility (3) | 0 |
| 2022 | 31 | 8 | Unknown or other (8) | 6 |
| 2023 | 17 | 1 | Unknown or other (4) | 4 |
| 2024 | 48 | 6 | Electrical system (16) | 5 |
| 2025 | 18 | 3 | Wheels (3) | 6 |
| 2026 | 5 | 1 | Unknown or other (2) | 0 |
One NX campaign often names two or more years, which pushes the right-hand column past 17.
Repair it or sell it?
Start with recalls. NHTSA's VIN search lists any open NX campaign, and a Lexus dealer does the work. Most remedies on this list, from fuel pumps to added welds, are listed as free of charge. Our open recall guide covers selling with one still open.
Then hold a written repair quote up against what a fixed NX of that year brings. When the gap is thin, selling the SUV unrepaired tends to come out ahead.

- Hybrid system faults on an NX 300h, 350h or 450h+: see hybrid battery failed.
- Crash damage: owners reported 48 crashes across the NX's complaints. If yours was in one, the wrecked car guide helps you weigh it.
Selling the whole NX
- Write down the badge first (200t, 300h, 450h+ and so on), since it tells a buyer which powertrain is inside. Include the NX's VIN, mileage and what's wrong.
- Get an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
- Describe the spot the NX occupies, and whether its wheels turn freely. Pickup is free anywhere in the US.
- Leave it whole. Don't remove the hybrid battery, the wheels or the catalytic converter.
- On NX loading day, hand our driver the title and show ID. Each state has its own plate rule; check after you sell.
No title? Start with selling with no title. Other Lexus SUVs: the RX, GX and RZ, or every Lexus we cover.
Questions people ask
- Which Lexus NX model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
- The 2024, with 48 complaints as of October 10, 2026, and 16 of them are filed under the electrical system. The 2015 is close behind at 47 and the 2019 has 44. The 2025 and 2026 have been sold for a shorter stretch, so their totals are still young.
- Is my NX part of a fuel pump recall?
- It may be. Three fuel pump campaigns list the first-generation NX: 20V012000 for the 2015, 20V682000 for the 2018-2019, and 25V028000 for the 2019 NX 300. Enter the NX's VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see any recall that is still open.
- Will you buy an NX 450h+ that won't charge or an NX that won't start?
- Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, and pickup is free anywhere in the US. Tell us what the dash shows, whether the SUV can be put in Neutral, and where it is parked.
- Should I pull the hybrid battery or wheels before selling?
- No. Sell the whole car as it sits. If parts are already off your NX, say so first, because it changes the number.
