Selling a non-running Lotus Esprit
The Esprit was one of the last cars built with pop-up headlights. Wikipedia names only one other in that group: the C5 Corvette, which ended production on July 2, 2004, the Esprit's last year. Over the 21 US model years EPA lists, 1984 to 2004, NHTSA's complaint file holds only three Esprit entries through Oct. 10, 2026.

The Esprit by series
Every Esprit was built at Hethel, Norfolk, with the engine behind the seats driving the rear wheels. The series in the US model years, from Wikipedia:

Wikipedia says the original Esprit and Esprit Turbo models were discontinued after 1990. EPA lists the later cars as Esprit Turbo, Esprit Turbo HC PI and Esprit V8.

- 1995: one complaint, gasoline fuel system, with a fire reported.
- 1998: one complaint, electrical system.
Recalls
Two recalls are about rear wheels. On 1997 cars (97V202, 11 vehicles) and 1997-1998 cars (98V135, 160 vehicles), some wheels were not heat treated for hardness and could crack and break. Dealers replace them.
The other two are about labels. 96V244 (1995-1997, 240 vehicles) covers air bag and seat belt warning labels missing from the sun visor. 04V001 (1997-2003, 660 vehicles) covers air bag warning labels required on both visors. Under 96V244 dealers can fit the labels; under 04V001 owners get the labels and installation instructions.

Restore it or sell it?
