Selling a wrecked or non-running Mazda CX-30

Of the 254 NHTSA complaints on the CX-30 as of October 10, 2026, 101 are for the 2021, and 44 of those point to the engine. No other CX-30 year has more than 34 complaints.

The years in the data

Wikipedia dates CX-30 production from 2019 to the present, with North and South American cars built in Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico. It lists three gasoline engines: a 2.0-liter and a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G four, and a turbocharged 2.5. The CX-30 is related to the Mazda3, CX-50 and MX-30, and in North America it took over from the CX-3. Wikipedia also notes that the IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick+ from 2022 to 2024.

The EPA lists model years 2020 to 2026, in two-wheel and four-wheel drive. Below, CX-30 years are grouped where the complaint pattern shifts.

2020-2021: most of the complaints and most of the recalls

These two years hold 135 complaints and four of the seven recall campaigns.

On the 2021, the engine leads with 44 complaints, then the electrical system with 11 and visibility and wipers with 9. Ten of its complaints report a crash and 13 report an injury. NHTSA's file sorts complaints by component, so the count shows where owners pointed, not one shared cause. None of the seven CX-30 recalls is for the engine.

The 2020 has 34 complaints, with service brakes named most (7). Its recalls:

  • 20V346: the factory may have left the front brake caliper mounting bolts loose, which could let the calipers work free. Dealers inspect and tighten them. The 24,037 count covers the whole campaign, which includes 2020 Mazda3 cars.
  • 20V347: on all-wheel-drive cars, the fuel tank's evaporative vent hose may be disconnected, which could let fuel leak. Dealers inspect and reconnect it. 12,097 vehicles.
  • 21V086 (2020-2021): a fully opened power liftgate may partly lower on its own when the car is parked facing uphill. Dealers update the liftgate software. 13,857 vehicles.

The 2021 adds 21V101: air may suddenly leak from a tire valve. Dealers replace all four valves. The 599-vehicle campaign also covers 2021 Mazda3 cars.

2022-2026: braking, cameras and air bag sensors

The later years hold 119 complaints between them. The engine still leads on the 2022 (7 of 33), but from 2023 on the mix moves to brakes, forward collision avoidance and the electrical system.

  • 23V275 (2022-2023): the ABS hydraulic control unit may be damaged and reduce braking. Dealers inspect and replace it. 2,410 vehicles, a count that includes 2023 CX-50s.
  • 24V649 (2024): a fault in the forward sensing camera may stop automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist from working. Dealers replace the camera as needed. 672 vehicles across the Mazda3, CX-30 and 2025 CX-50.
  • 25V357 (2024-2025): the air bag sensor unit may set an error code and switch off the air bags when the battery runs low. Dealers reprogram or replace the unit. The 171,412 count covers the whole campaign, Mazda3 included.

These are young cars. The 2025 and 2026 have only been out a short while, so their low counts may still go up.

Complaints and recalls by model year

These CX-30 figures come from NHTSA complaints we checked October 10, 2026. One recall may cover more than one year.

Should you fix it first?

Check the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup before you spend anything. On a 2024 or 2025, the air bag sensor recall matters most, since the fault can switch the air bags off. NHTSA's notices say the tire valve, ABS unit, camera and air bag sensor recalls are fixed free of charge. An unfinished recall doesn't block a sale (open recall).

After a crash, your insurer may already have decided. If it totaled the car, insurer totaled it covers keeping the car versus taking the payout. If it doesn't, get a written repair quote and compare it to what a clean CX-30 of your year and trim sells for.

Selling it whole

  1. Have the VIN, mileage and damage ready. Photos of the damage help.
  2. Request an offer online, or call (877) 421-6008.
  3. Let us know the spot: your driveway, a body shop lot, or a tow yard. Say whether it rolls and steers.
  4. Leave every part on it, wheels and electronics included. Mention anything already removed.
  5. When the truck comes, have your title and photo ID. If the lender still has the title, read still owe on the loan first.

Questions people ask

Which CX-30 model year has the most NHTSA complaints?
The 2021, with 101 of the model's 254 complaints as of October 10, 2026. No other year has more than 34. The newest CX-30 years are younger, so their totals are smaller.
Is there a recall for the 2021 CX-30's engine?
Not among the seven CX-30 recalls NHTSA lists. They cover brake caliper bolts, a fuel vapor hose, the power liftgate, tire valves, the ABS unit, the front camera and the air bag sensor. To see CX-30 recalls after these, enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Will you buy a CX-30 that was in a wreck?
Yes. We buy whole non-running and junk cars, including wrecked ones, with free pickup anywhere in the US. Tell us where the CX-30 was hit and if it can still roll.
